What else was the lawyer going to say? He is looking for a payday and will get a small one if he is smart enough to take the money and run. Texas has plenty of lawyers ready to swat this guy back into his hole.

True, but our historic action is to play gutless wonders, grab the ankles and scream "thank you, may I have another, sir" (at least since Frank Erwin died)

    Or-
Could be an emotionally unstable person who made stuff up. I’ve had people say stuff that’s not true about me.

I only go with what people say who are there. And she recanted, who are we to choose to believe otherwise?

Yes and I am hoping that CdC puts an end to this stupidity.

I’m curious if Minton and Beard go full scorched earth on UT administration. Decision was obviously made outside of CDC control (which is true for most compliance-based actions). I would start mentioning the lack of regard by UT for women’s mental health in the decision. If the charges are dropped as Minton says, then sue for discrimination. You can always bet on a spineless administrator to make a weasel decision.

I have not followed this, but are some people suggesting that Beard will stay in this relationship? If so, I don’t think this will end well. Relationships where one party provokes conflict and another party responds with violence typically end badly. And with the added destruction of a very high profile career with commensurate significant loss of income it only creates a bigger source of conflict. If the accusations are unfounded, it only gets worse.
Happiness needs to be this woman in his rear view mirror.

Based on the information available to us, there is every reason to believe that today’s decision was a foregone conclusion, probably made weeks ago. If indeed neither Beard nor his girlfriend was interviewed by the school, the strategy may have been to give the appearance of due process when in fact, the University felt that because of the public nature of the incident and the detrimental impact on the school, they had no option but to terminate him.

wHAT ELSE COULD cdc do? If this was another school we would be blasting them for having a coach that was arrested for family violence. I hate to see him go but understand why we could not keep him. Some things are more important than winning basketball games. Lets get behind a new coach and be glad that CDC cared more about the image of the University than winning games.

He's gonna get paid, and probably win a natty somewhere else in 5 years....Another cancel culture victim. Wonder how UT justifies a player still being allowed to play with a similar charge....

He could have waited for this to be investigated like he said he was going to do. I think Beard is going to get paid.

I said this at the outset, and I believe it today. My advice was to take his case public. To appeal to the court of public opinion, through a press conference with his girlfriend by his side.

Beard is a very engaging individual, and if he had made a public appeal, expressing regret while not admitting to anything, I believe that it would have made it more difficult for Texas to terminate him.

Sometimes the best defense is not legal. Certainly not in this case, because Texas determined his fate before the matter had been legally resolved.

Quote from Davis: “Chris Beard engaged in unacceptable behavior that makes him unfit to serve as head coach at our university," UT said in part in its response to Mr. Minton. ”

    Two things:
    1. What behavior is Davis referring to? Any evidence of said behavior?

    2. Apparently having a relationship with a partner with mental issues is “unacceptable behavior” and grounds to be fired. Is this in the contract? What about other UT employees?

CDC didn’t make the decision. These types of decisions are shuttled to a compliance department who know nothing but CYA. I’ve seen it in corporate America. It’s grossly unAmerican because an employee is not judged by his peers but by weasels instead.

"Believe otherwise" is way too strong, but there's plenty of reason to have some doubts about the recanting.

I know Stat.. I truly do.
But we can’t negate a statement by the victim and decide that the first statement ( made while emotionally charged) IS the truth.
    If she recants, she recants.

BTW, I’m not a basketball fan. This has nothing to do with a winning coach for me.

It’s America. You are innocent until proven guilty. This Davis guy shouldn’t be able to be the DA, the judge and jury.
    That’s what I don’t agree with.

I’ve told the story several times here, but I hired a very good guy who was arrested for rape b/c of a crazy GF, she lied… she admitted she lied to the DA - they got married a year later.

I'm not sure who I would consider more crazy, the GF or the moron that went ahead and married her.

Oddly enough, I have been in this situation.
After startling my (then) fiancé by snatching my keys out of her hand so I could get the hell out of there she slapped me on the shoulder and then called 911 and said I hit her.
Cops came. I explained what happened. She concurred and they stood by while I loaded my truck and left.
However, unlike the Beard case, there were no physical marks on the woman.
Beards girlfriend showed them scrapes and bruises.
I don't profess to believe either one of them.
But I can see her changing her story after realizing she just derailed the gravy train.

My wife and I re-read the police report last night. She had raised eyebrows after we finished it. So, then we have a "take-back" press release. It begs questions. Why would she do that, especially after what was said to the officer and what the officer recorded in his notes about her physical injuries.

    $$$?

I would have sat down with them just to check her body language. But in the end, the university would have to live with believing she is a nutter who lost her marbles and lied to the police. Is that not a crime?

As for the impending lawsuit, refer to Mike Leach (RIP). Did he not get hosed by sovereign immunity? That could be the summary judgment on this one. And Beard is not a protected class minority so the university won't have any issues there.

I wish we all knew the whole, true story. Unfortunately we don't so we grasp at different facts based on our own personal experiences. I still want to hear the audio that Beard claims will exonerate him. He said that but we haven't heard it to this point. Will we ever? What I say next comes more from discussions I have with my wife. Part of her job is understanding abusive relationships and how they affect others. It's been documented that there are people that are in abusive relationships that keep repeating the cycle. They call the police to get abusive behavior stopped in the moment but then recant because they don't want to lose that relationship. There are PTSD studies on this issue. There were scratches and a bite mark seen by the police. It's pretty easy to determine who made the bite. Unfortunately we probably won't know all the facts. There is actually Texas Public Law that supports this decision according to my wife. Having said all of that, my support is for the University. While I want to win in every sport we compete in, in MY OPINION this is a situation where it is time to move on from Beard. CDC can find another great coach likes he's done times before.
