16 is the number Payton wore at Tennessee. It’s also the number that Arch wore in HS. Then again, Archie wore 8 in NO, a jersey number that has functionally been retired there.

    16 = 2x8

Maybe Arch will be twice as good as Grandpa... :D

While I agree, we shouldn’t forget that no one would have shed a tear had PK been jettisoned after Year 1. After Year 2 it has been a different conversation. If we see continued progression this year (which I expect), the D could be something special.

special? hmmm I would settle for solid and sometimes salty. Our offense can take care of the rest. 10-2 at the least.

What the heck is going on in Austin the weekend of the spring game? Hotel rates are exorbitant.

I think that's just Austin. Doesn't really matter what weekend it is any longer.

The Motorcycle GP race is at Circuit of the Americas and the Capitol 10K is that weekend.

Thanks Horns11, but while rates are in general higher this year they still do dramatic increases for big weekends, etc. must be the circuit. Rates go insane when the Formula One is in town. An airport hotel that is normally under $200 is going for over $700, per night! Means we do a day turnaround this year.

Speaking of Jersey numbers, I sincerely hope someone on the staff reminds the current players who the former and great players were that wore that number.
    Street’s 16, Danny Lester’s 23, Fred Steinmark’s 28, Ricky Churchman’s 8 McMichael’s 99 etc., just for starters
That would be great for a player to know and carry that legacy.

It's actually been done on kind of a micro-level. The lockers have those LED screens on them with the player's name and number. The "screensaver" for each has highlights and stuff that scroll through action shots of them. One of the slides is former Longhorns who had that number. It's not much, but it's something.

    Highlights:
    • Which position group is working best? Too early to tell, but OL and DL "feel good" as strengths.
    • Jaydon Blue: physical and mental maturity - compared his situation to Sanders in that everyone was wondering where he was but then Sanders turned it on for year 2. Never not had a 1000-yard rusher.
    • J. Bledsoe: one of the most gifted athletes, expects him to develop
    • AD Mitchell and J. Cook: good competition, getting Neyor back eventually, passing game needs to improve. Worthy showed Cook a blocking assignment and it fired everyone up.
    • Choice is a great coach.
    • M. Murphy: had a setback with the injury recovery but he does everything right otherwise. Need QB competition to make it worthwhile.
    • Do things right during Spring Break. Make good choices.
    • NFL Combine: does it show that Texas is trending in the right direction? Hope so. Sent 5 guys, should be sending 10. Interviews matter. Bijan set a great example.
    • Portal vs. HS Recruiting: build from freshmen class, positional needs (gaps) are the main thing Sark considers with portal. Elite HS players are more sustainable. We have staffers who monitor portal.
    • Edge position: high expectations for a bunch of guys. Don't want to pigeon hole anyone into it because so many guys to move around.
    • B. Murphy: disruptive, strong, powerful. Sweat and Murphy take the bull by the horns.

Neyor being hurt last year cost us 2 games at least now that we know Worthy played hurt.

Lockers have LED screens on them? WTH have I been and dang I'm getting older every day. No locker I was in would have had an LED screen survive.

So the scrap wood 2x4 chicken wire lockers from way back when wouldn’t fly today?
Those were reserved for the Varsity. That was an upgrade from the hooks and nails on the wall for sub-varsity teams.
