Huge home series to end 14 game home stand and start conference play.

Friday game is in the top of the 9th with Texas winning 6-2. Gordon went 5 and 1/3 and Zane Morehouse has pitched the last 2 and 2/3.

Horns got 3 in the bottom of the 8th to blow open a close pitchers duel.

Horns win 6-2 to extend win streak to 12 and start off conference play with a win.

Really need to win this series to start conference play off right so getting one of next two is critical and if they can get both then they will be in great shape going forward.

Morehouse pitched a scoreless 3 and 2/3 to close out game and get win. Massive effort on his part.

Like I said, play a little better at fielding, batting and pitching and put it together at the same time and the horns will be fine.

Morehouse was the best Ive ever seen him. He shut them down completely.

I watched the end of the game while traveling. Morehouse looked indescribable. He looked like a full grown man on the mound tonight.

Interesting how Morehouse looked less than good Tuesday but like was mentioned he’s probably never looked better.

We scored 6, but we had multiple very well hit balls right at defenders. We looked pretty disciplined at the plate. We had some deeper hit balls so I think we’ll get more homers as it heats up.

Im very curious how this staff plays out. Never thought Morehouse would throw 3+. He may be done for the weekend.

Had to watch it on tape and juggling watching the basketball game.

Gordon pitched well, but got his pitch count up high early and Kash took one to the yard. Still, a good effort by Geno. 2 runs in 5.1 or 5.2 innings.

Zane Morehouse came in and was on fire. No hits. No walks. Every batter he faced was retired—many of them by strikeouts. Textbook stopper. I think we have 2 now—Morehouse and Shaw.

Fantastic opening to conference play, and against a legit top 15 team.

Daly made an E that didn’t get scored that way.

Routinish ground ball. Daly held it too long, did that sort of double clutch before throwing, and the throw was late. He was a bit miffed at himself.

Another BIG PLUS from Lucas “Geno” Gordon tonight—he had the bases loaded with one out after the above-described E by Daly, and after getting jobbed on a strike call worse than Southard used to get jobbed on strike calls. Gordon then calmly worked his way out of it, and no runs were surrendered that inning.

    Geno is ice.

Tech used three relievers, I think. We used one.

And Tech’s weakness is their pen.

Molina is a good starting pitcher. I think we will see him tomorrow.

And WHAT did we do to drive away Gavin Kash????

Morehouse was so efficient in those three innings though, I imagine he is available for Saturday in a long relief role or as a closer, 50+ pitches?? Just my guess but think that would definitely burn him for the weekend then.

Saturday is listed as Sthele vs. Molina on Texas Sports.

Sunday is listed as TBA vs TBA.

I would think LBJ has the inside track, but you never know. Hurley threw the mid week game, and I think Coach wants to keep Shaw as a reliever.

According to Pierce it was unsurety of available scholly money.....quoting from AAS article.......

Earlier this week, Pierce was asked why things didn't work out for Kash in Austin. "Gavin Kash was outstanding when he was here," Pierce said. He said the departure was due to uncertainty about scholarship money.

"The biggest reason (it didn't work out was) I was trying to do the right thing, and I sincerely mean that," Pierce said. "With the portal (deadline) being at July 1st a year ago, it puts me, coaches, in a position to go, 'Hey, if we needed some help on some money' or if we need to make some adjustments in your scholarship for the time being, I need to go to you and talk to you about that. If that's not something that's comfortable for you, I want to give you the opportunity to go play.

I don’t think Shaw is ready as a starter, my guess is it’s LBJ. I think Shaws role is a reliever or stopper.

Congrats on the Friday night win! Y’all pulled together a great performance on all sides of the ball.

And sadly, our starting rotation is decimated by injuries again this year. For the past 3-years we’ve lost starters to injuries early in the season. Not sure if it’s bad luck, bad training/conditioning, bad management or a combo of all of the above.

I have wondered all season why Gavin Kash came to Tech, and I’m glad to finally know. As far as I’m aware, Gavin’s never uttered anti-UT word. He talks so respectfully about “my friend Ivan” a lot, and how he’s still close to many of his old teammates.

Yeah, probably LBJ. Maybe the official TBA line is to psychologically motivate him.

On a similar note to Kash—why did Porchas hit the road?

We face Molina today. By the numbers, he’s actually Tech’s best weekend starter. After today, Tech’s pitching quality drops off quite a bit. I would expect today to be our most difficult game of the series. Molina’s good.

This is Sthele’s chance to shine.

Thus far this year, Sthele’s pattern has been to have one crappy inning early, then to settle in and pitch really well through about 5 innings. Then it gets a bit rough again, and he’s pulled.

While he’s had consistency problems last year, aside from Morehouse, Sthele may have the best “stuff” of any of our pitchers this year.

67 pitches since Tuesday for Morehouse. He might have another outing this weekend. No idea.

RBI double for Tech. 2-1. That’s it for Stehle. LBJ coming in for relief. T4, 1 out.
