More a case of her being appointed mayor by Rodney Ellis. If by some great miracle, she was to lose, she doesn't have to give up her Congressional seat to run.

Given the field of dems who have announce, Sly should be SheJack, but I don't believe either beats John Whitmire.

And with that projection, I also expect to see SheJack playing the race card and Sly endorse his version of Ray Nagin's dream of a Chocolate City.

Whitmire has a 2 point lead at present, but 46% are "undecided".

I loved my time in Houston, but I do not miss living there. It only gets worse if SJL starts running it.

Hard to believe Nagin has been released from prison already thanks to COVID. Otherwise, he'd still be behind bars for two more months.

    iii,

Make sure to know that SJL will make few, if any changes in the way the city is run. It will still be run by Rodney Ellis. Only difference is that Turner really doesn't have his "own language" of made up words.

Neither is she as slick or as sharp as Turner when it comes to "spreading the wealth".

Maybe we should start a calcutta for when the first indictment comes down.

The fact that SJL might be a serious candidate for Mayor of Houston is absolutely baffling to me. It must be a city of lunatics now. Dallas elected Eric Johnson, and though he's pretty liberal, he wasn't an be embarrassment before getting elected. SJL is.

Because what was really bad about Lori Lightfoot was that she was too tough on teachers unions, or so says the voters in the Windy City. Chicago is a fuckin' disgrace. They ousted a bad mayor and decided to do even worse. They deserve the hideous crime and corruption they're going to get.

    Link.

Is anyone surprised about Chicago? Maybe Johnson will get his wish - completely defund the police.

Lori Lightfoot calls BS on teachers unions. Again, she lost because of the one thing she was right about.

I wonder why Lori decided that was the political hill to die on. She had to know Dems would hate her for it, and she isn't selecting enough conservative things to be labeled a Republican.

Because it shouldn't have been a hill to die on. The people closing schools should have been dying on a hill. And she knows the closures hurt black kids and families more than anyone else. They had good reason to ***** about that.

I guess that's good for her to die on a hill trying to support blacks.

Perhaps, but frankly, what she was trying to do was right for everybody. Blacks got screwed the hardest, but children of all races and backgrounds got hurt terribly because of a few extremely self-centered and dishonest people in the education field.

    Guy,

Houston Public Media does NOT have access to all those ballots in Rodney Ellis office. I'd be more impressed with two numbers that really matter. How many votes are they counting AND how many graves in Lawndale Cemetery? I haven't driven out Baytown Frwy recently, but just curious if the campaign has to go get the ballot boxes from Sam Jacinto cemetery as well.

Rodney Ellis was a powerful state senator with tons of seniority and an easy district for him to win. He could have stayed there until the day he died. For him to just walk away from that and turn his seat over to Boris Miles (the Rick James of politicians), he must have a tremendous racket going for him at the county level.

The fact that Sly is stumping for SheJack is bringing the anti crowd out more than the pro-Whitmire crowd. There is also the traditional lack of turnout for a run-off and that is more likely going to help Whitmire.

    Deez,

No one ever said or thought Ellis "walked away"; rather he expanded his "fiefdom". He runs the county, as well as the city. To add more intrigue to the mayor's race, Ellis & Whitmire are bitter enemies.

Ellis is also getting Sylvester Turner elected to SJ-L's Congressional seat.

Turner will be an improvement over SJL. You can do a little worse than Turner. You can't do worse than SJL. She's one of the most useless politicians in the country.

We got Eddie Bernice Johnson here in Dallas. A buffoon but an amateur compared to SJL
