So my one year anniversary with my wife is coming up later this month and I have no clue what I am going to do for it yet. I am actually having quit a bit of difficulty coming up with any good ideas. First off we live in the Wichita Falls area so there isnt hardly anything to do in town. And we don't have very much money right now so that rules out my original plan of going away for a weekend. So I was hoping you guys would be able to help me out with some ideas. Thanks for any suggestions.

You can go to McBride's then Toby's or Old Town.

Mine is coming up in December. I'm looking at hanging out for the weekend at some wineries in the Hill country.

A surprise weekend trip to Fort Worth, stay in nice hotel, go see the excellent museums there like the fairly new modern art museum? Or the standard nice restaurant and flowers? Send the flowers to her workplace if she works, it's more of a surprise.

Flowers at work is a good idea, she gets to show off in front of her coworkers even if she says that kind of stuff doesn't matter to her. [IMG]

Do you regularly cook? If not, cook for her. If you do regularly cook, cook something nicer. Steak au poivre is one of my wife's favorites, she thinks it's difficult and fancy, when it couldn't be easier. Here's Alton Brown's recipe:

I don't know anything about Wichita Falls, but some generic ideas for a romantinc and fun time are:

    Picnic with wine and cheese

    Ride in a horse-drawn carriage

Buy her a spa day and then cook for her or take her out

Stay at a nearby bed and breakfast for a night, they're usually not too expensive, try to pick a place near something interesting like museums, art galleries, or good hiking areas depending on her interests. Make it all a surprise and just tell her what to pack (throw in some funky items to throw her off the trail).

Draw a bath for her with candles and scented oils

Spend the day doing something she likes like gardening, needlepoint, knitting, survival training, skydiving, paintball, or whatever. [IMG]

    Happy anniversary and good luck!

How about buying her a 55" TV, and allowing her to watch it once a week in your mancave? That really shows you love her.

If you are a halfway decent cook then a knock-her-socks off meal with a nice bottle of wine would go a long way. Wives love a husband who can make a nice and romantic meal at home, at least my wife and a lot of my friends' wives do.

Don't just have flowers delivered to work, deliver them in person. (Should save some money too) Then a simple dinner someplace or at home ought to do it.

The comment was they can't do a weekend away b/c of cost, so the overnight tri[ tp FW is out. THAT SAID -- do a day tri[ to Fort Worth. Go to the Kimball Art Museum (not the modern art museum). One of the best "small" art museums in the nation. They always have some special exhibit -- get tickets for whatever it is. You can then get an early dinner at, say , the Brownstone or Lonesome Dove and head back

Oh, sorry I missed the part about the weekend trip idea being nixed. My wife wants to go to Fort Worth to see those museums, so that's why I thought of it. The day trip might work, though. I don't think that would be a very expensive trip.
The Kimball is a great museum, but the new modern art museum is supposed to be really good, too.

    Visit a third world country.

    It's cheap...

...and right on the other side of the Red River.

Alright well it now looks like we might would be able to take a little weekend trip as long as it wasn't too expensive. I was thinking somewhere around the Austin area no farther than Fredericksburg. That way we could go to the Texas football game that weekend. Anyone know of a good B&B in the area?

Ft worth is fun. You used to be able to get rooms at the lodge in Fossil Rim Wildlife place for 100 bucks in the winter, which included getting to see the animals.

I like the modern and the Kimble. But once you've seen the Modern you've pretty much seen it.

There's a restaurant called Edelweiss on the loop... it's kinda ghetto and in a strip mall, but the German food is awesome and the place is fun as hell! The Link

New Orleans is DIRT CHEAP to stay in. Unfortunately, you are a bit late on SW's tickets, which would've been $150 round trip, for both of you, with taxes and fees. Seriously, if you want to stay in a great city for nothing, NOLA is your best bet.

Fredericksburg is a great idea, and if you'll walk downtown and shop a little she will be putty in your hands! Go online and look for a B&B - there are several agencies that have B&B's, and you should get one where you have the property to yourselves. We've stayed at Papa John's Bunkhouse through Gatehaus Schmidt, which is a little house in the back of a home that has a fireplace, a loft bedroom, and a jacuzzi tub. Several good restaurants - Navaho Grill, which is downtown, or the Hilltop Cafe - a few miles away but funky and great food.

Yup, Fredericksburg is great. Shopping for her, and biergartens for you. Great art community and actually some decent live music too.
