Has anyone had both and can shed some light how they compare? I have had DirecTV for a long time and had never considered anything else and was wondering if it was worth looking into.

I was going to ask the same question , but I've had Att and not DTV.

I like U-verse, but they just dropped the Food Network , which is my wifes most watched channel , to which my waistline can attest.

It is a problem that may be resolved, but if not I will need to switch to another cable provider.

I'm sure DTV will meet my sports needs, but I was wondering how it compares to Uverse in other areas.

With Uverse you can use ON DEMAN to go back and watch some regular broadcast shows that you may have missed as well as a lot of free movies at any time. Does DTV have this feature? Thanks

I had both last year for 1 month and did a side by side comparison. Some things have changed in that time period but here were MY results.
Picture Quality – equal or slight edge U-verse
    Sound - equal
Bundle – U-verse lets you bundle TV, phone, internet
Content- About the same, Direct TV has Sunday Ticket. If that means something to you, you are already a DTV person and won’t change.
Multiple TV Feeds- U-verse -You can only have a MAXIMUM of 2 HD feeds simultaneously for your entire home. If you are recording in HD and watching in HD everyone else is stuck in SD. If wife pulls up something in HD on another set she will kill your recording or live feed! Direct TV can handle up to 2 HD feeds per unit with up to 5 units per home.
DVR- With DTV Whole home DVR you can share multiple DVR content and record multiple HD sources simultaneously. I have 2 HD-DVR’s and can record up to 4 HD shows while watching content from any DVR in the house on any TV on DTV.

The last 2 made it game set and Match DTV.
I would say that AT&T has better customer service. That tells you how bad Direct TV can be at times.

Our DTV is bundled with our AT&T phone and DSL, for what its worth.

The limited HD feeds kills UVERSE for me. Im not sure why the previous poster said the HD feeds are limited to 5 boxes for DTV, thats not the case in our house. We have a setup sending 2 feeds to 8 locations all of which can watch HD at the same time if we had 8 boxes. Its a 16 output multiplexer that DTV provided.

Check your feeds Oak, about 6 weeks ago they increased it in our area so now I have 3 HD feeds with uverse.

The biggest boon about Uverse to me is the total home DVR. My main living room TV has the DVR, but we can watch any recorded show on any TV in the house. Now that we have 3 feeds, on the rare occasions we fill up our feeds with DVR recordings, we can still watch things already recorded in HD.

I switched from DTV to Uverse at the beginning of June this. I switched the TV service back to DTV by the end of June. The HD picture quality for Uverse was visibly inferior and I did not want to live with it. It was not very good. I am not a big techie and normally I would not even notice things like that, but it was obvious.

As a current Uverse customer who has not had TV, wifi, or digital phone for 4days, I can wholeheartedly NOT recommend Uverse. If you do not have a home that has been built in last two years, don't get Uverse until they make major upgrades...

I would consider U-verse, but it's a LOT harder to get it at the tailgate. [IMG]

I had Uverse for 3 years. Just went to Direct TV 4 months ago.

Pretty simple IMO. When changing channels in Uverse, it is instantaneous with no "black screeen". Direct TV takes about 3-4 seconds of "black screen". Watching multiple football games sucks. You spend half your time staring at a black screen.

I don't care about the differences in channel lineups, price, etc.....it all comes down to ease of watching football.

    Uverse all day.

I just saw that Time Warner is now offering a new service called SignatureHome, kind of similar to the Uverse offerings. It includes:

    - 2 cable boxes
    - Whole home DVR
    - DVR can store 150 hours of HD recordings, and record four HD shows at one
    - Internet speeds of 50mbps download, 5mbps upload

All for $180/month, which kicks Uverse's *** in terms of features for the price. The only catch is that you are also required to get the home phone service; you can't opt out of it and pay a little less.
