    nra and others -

Melton's tippy toe on 4th and 1 against aggy a few years ago will live on in infamy...sorry. 12-7 was the outcome if you weren't watching...

Truth - he never lived up to the hype and all of his 'truth' does nothing to help the program that he claims to love so much.

I agree with some of that.

Regardless, this isn't a GD thread. I'm sure you could find a way to work that into one of the other 87 of them.

    What 100P said.

Go watch an SEC game. Pom Poms vibrating for HOURS. It is a FOOTBALL GAME not a social event.

I was at a Texas EXES watch party for the tOSU/Texas bowl game. I and a group of SERIOUS Texas fans yelled our butts off.

At halftime the talkers and socialites left for some funny reason. [IMG] [IMG]

Henry had 10 touchdowns as a freshman; 16 total for his career... His freshman season was 2005, and we all know how that year ended. From the time he was a 11-12-year old kid, watching him play pee-wee football, I felt his best days would be on the defensive side of the ball, as he was too big to be a RB, according to the weight rules. But, other than that, all his life he prepared to be a running back; a huge, and fast one, at that. And that was his dream, until he was persuaded otherwise. I think he represented the university quite well, and I'm proud to know him personally and as a fan of UT.

What's the point of all the hating so many on this board do of former UT players?

He didn't have the natural instinct for playing RB. He just didn't have the knack for it and I see no reason to invalidate his opinions on football in general for that or to degrade him as a person, especially given how quickly he worked his *** off to become a pretty good DL.

All due respect to Melton, who had the mettle to make the switch and work through a lot of adversity to make it as a great DE, he got WAY MORE than his fair share of chances at RB...
Sorry he remembers the grumbling about that, but it was getting pretty old watching him jitterbug around like he thought he was Emmit Smith.

    WorsterMan SEC here we come!!

There is little he said I disagree with - I have been attending UT games since 1966 at home & on the road. I have always thought our fans come way too late especially at home, other than the ou game - are not loud most of the time, too many leave early for gawd knows what and many are very ignorant of the team, football strategy, while whinning alot.

Melton may have been a less-than-mediocre RB . .. . but he's not wrong. Our fans are not awesome, and quite often contribute nothing to our home-field presence. But I suspect that this is not as unusual among CFB fans as some of you seem to think.

    this is an interesting debate.

having sat through a lifetime of mediocrity in football, i can say with certainty that there are a couple of rules of fandom:

people want to do things that are easy.

being a fan of a winning team is easy

being a fan of a losing is not.

so therefore, when your team is losing, of course the atmosphere reflects that. of course there are fewer people in the stands. of course the atmosphere sucks. of course we end up finding better options than going to the game for 4 quarters.

there are very very few exceptions to this rule. but it's human nature. it's hard to be a fan of a losing team.

as for melton's perspective, i dont see how attacking his performance as a player does anything. he's got a different vantage point than all of us, which in and of itself adds a significant amount to the discussion. whether or not you agree with him might be different, but his opinion is valid.

Gotta agree with Basketball Jones. I think there's a thing or two to do in Boulder. The other cities, maybe not so much.
