I just found out that the IRS did not receive my electronic filing for 2009, though I have a print out of the 1040, as well as the amount I owe. I have moved since I filed, so I never received anything from the IRS. The IRS representative stated I would incur penalties and interest because they have not received it, but I know I filed... I have the print out proof. How do I rectify this situation? Please help!! Thank you!!

When you e-filed, did you also send payment? If so, get a copy of the transaction from the bank and provide both documents to the IRS. If you knew you owed the IRS money, e-filed but never payed them, you still owe the money plus interest and penalties even if you have proof that you filed. It is your responsibility to make sure that money gets to the IRS. Have they told you how much you currently owe?

Unless it is a small sum that you can go ahead and stroke a check for, I would contact a CPA or tax attorney and have them deal with the IRS from this point forward.

Have you considered a move to Luxemborg?
