I don't blame him. Right now we don't have any OL coach. If Mack hire a badass OL coach, he will sign with us.
He was out most of the year. I believe he has returned to action in the last couple of playoff games. It seems his dominant HS team is unchallenged by Arizona competition whether he plays or cheers...
Would really hate to lose him, but these out of state recruits are very difficult to lock down. If he is the only recruit we lose out of this class, I can live with it. And yes I know how badly we need OL help.
Dang... The fall from the top is much further than anyone expected. Looks like Texas is still falling and we will only know how far until signing day has passed.
I sure can't blame Westerman for looking out for himself. His chosen team has to replace his position coach and the OC after a dismal season. A couple good hires would put this to rest and settle the nerves of players and fans.
In the past Mack has soured on recruits who have committed and then restarted/continued to look around. Hopefully due to the suck *** season and the coaching staff changes, Mack will cut the young man some slack.
BobbyBurtonOnline Gerry is on his way back to Houston from Dallas after yesterday's state title games. Here is a note on Westerman: Christian Westerman’s dad sent Gerry a text Saturday night. Westerman said Major Applewhite and Marcus Tubbs were both at Westerman’s state championship game. The Chandler Hamilton coach had told us that Applewhite was at the game but he made no mention of Tubbs. If Tubbs did indeed travel to the game, that means Tubbs has been activated as a legal recruiter. We first reported Ken Rucker had been activated, but now Tubbs appears to have been activated as well.
If you had cold feet about Texas, why in the world would you be looking at a $chool that may very well be looking at U$C $tyle penaltie$ when all the du$t $ettle$? (unless you're trying to get paid before the bank gets closed down)
I thought Mack Brown does not take recruits who take visits to other schools? Westerman's grandparents live in Alabama so Auburn or Alabama makes sense for him. I thought Westerman was a recruit Texas could not afford to lose since they need so much help on O Line and D Line.
These comments probably kill the kid for Texas: Link Mack probably would have cut him some slack for visiting Alabama Aggy, but basically saying that Texas lied to him shows some immaturity (probably to be expected) as to the process (you have to take any coaching situation at face value) and probably an unforgivable sin in Mack's book.
"It’s different from what they told me, from what I expected to see when I got there" Viper - you're reaching if you think he's calling Texas' staff liars. I'm sure these recruiting insecurities will all regress once we announce our new DC/OC. Think about it, he could be pointing out what we were all expecting as well (WM as HCIW) - hardly being lied to. W When Auburn loses in a couple weeks and more is made known regarding the Cam Newton fiasco, I think Auburn will be in the hotseat themselves
Viper, You need some reading comprehension. He said that the situation is different that what he was told. And it is, the OL coach and the OC are gone. That's not calling anyone a liar, it's merely a statement of fact that all the recruits in this class can relate to when both the OC and DC that they were recruited to play for are gone.
Here's my dumb question. When can Mack go out to Arizona and meet with the kid face to face and put out this fire?
So far I don't have a problem with this kid. He's got a point, things have changed, he has no idea who his coach will be and wants to have a plan B if he doesn't like the newhires. Fair enough. I'm happy he hasn't fully decommitted and is shopping his *** all over the place like many a 5 star does. The ball is in Mack's court to put a gold standard staff together in a way that is reassuring and appealing to recruits and timely enough for them to stay Texas committed well before signing day.
Orangeman, the kid has every right to look around. The issue is Mack's stated philosophy that once committed, that is it - no more visits, etc. Will Mack cut the kid some slack due to the current circumstances is the question?
In this case I think the answer is a resounding "YES". With the staff changes nobody can blame him for looking around a little. And as a previous poster mentioned, at least he hasn't decommitted. If I'm not mistaken he hasn't taken his official visit to Texas yet so we still have that plus Mack's in-home.
I've also read that Mack will have an in-home visit with Westerman in early January. I don't fault the kid one bit for keeping his options open when his OC and OL coaches are unknown at this point. Hopefully Mack will have a kick-*** staff in place by the time he heads out to Arizona.
