  1. [IMG] does that **** hit your credit score?

it was my debit card. i only have ONE debit card. and it's in my wallet. i never lost it. how does a thief use a card that they don't have?

i'd like to thank three different Walmarts, several gas stations, and Chipotle for checking for ID. all in the DFW area.

oh yeah... Merry Christmas, i didn't get you **** because i procrastinate until the last weekend. [IMG]

$1200 so far with possible pending transactions [IMG]

Sorry to hear about that bro.

My Dad always said "ain't nuthin' in this world worse than a ******* thief".

He also said " boy if you take another one of my beers without asking... I'll cut your ******* balls off and feed 'em to you".

Theft was frowned upon in our house.

Aaah...Growing up with a drunk,Vietnam vet Marine for a Dad was loads of fun.

Don't worry about your credit as the money was directly withdrawn from your bank account.

I had a similar experience with my debit card. All I did was go to the bank, fill out a form stating which transactions were not mine, and the money was reimbursed to me in a few days. Banks have insurance for circumstances like this, so they will just reimburse you and make a claim. No big deal [IMG]

Oh, just as long as these "purchases" are out of the ordinary than it is ok, oh, and I hope you already cancelled the debit card!!

  4. the operation is...

once they get my debit card number (could be a waiter at my favorite restaurant) they keep that number and place it on a counterfeit card with THEIR name on the card... so it'll match the name on their ID. most likely a fake ID so their real identity isn't revealed.

the machine that does this is pretty magical and expensive. i think they did a 60 minutes on this operation once.

So the only thing you can do is just close that account and open a new one??

if it's expensive, I couldn't see a waiter owning it.

I had a friend who got her CC stolen from her purse in her car (dumb move on her part).

The theif bought some Whataburger and gas 3 times. He also ordered a car part at Autozone. The Autozone manager was nice enough to supply her with the thief's name, number and home address. (dumber move on his part)

The guy who owns the machine probably has a dozen waiters on the take. He pays them a flat fee per number or a small percentage of the profits from the card. There are actually websites that these guys go to to trade confidential info of this type anonymusly. SSN's go for only a few dollars each. Bank accout info is more valuable. The number the waiter stole may have been sold 2 orr 3 times through middlemen.

good luck. Hopefully your bank doesn't give you ****. I know someone where Wells Fargo would reimburse them. Either way act fast.

  12. Did you omit a "not", Chachi? Is Wells Fargo good or not? I am with them but only because I get a great account since they hold my mortgage. I have thought many times about dropping them and going to University Federal Credit Union, Compass or something like Frost.

I thought you were limited to $500 for theft or did the credit card companies and banks that own this country change it?

2 Months ago, was @ the Oak Hill Y Albertson's -- has a B.O.A. inside. Dude left his CC in the machine & it's asking "Do you want another transaction?" I hit "no" & chased the guy down to hand it over.

Yesterday @ St. David's on 32nd in Austin, the wife is getting pre delivery tests done on the L&D floor. Took Tex (sig photo @ 21 months old now) around to prevent mayhem... wandered down by the cafeteria & there's an ATM beeping it's [Mr. T]Damn Fool Head Off[/Mr. T]. Screen says "Would you like another transaction?" so I pressed NO & gave the card to the cashier.

This was a standalone machine; there were NO (I repeat NO) cameras anywhere around. Not in the halls, not on the machine, not in the cafeteria (came into the downstairs area via side door).

Heck, I wouldn't even remotely know where to use something like this since everyone has cameras all over the place & the po-po can simply track & match pics with time of transaction.

& Don't even get me started on ordering **** through the mail...

Always do the right thing. Condolences, GOO.

I once had my Debit card number lifted.
Only way I discovered it was after the tele. calls started coming from from phone sex company. It was their collection dept.

If it comes to you getting calls - use the magic words:
" (I) Did not make, did not authorize (the services) in regard to this conversation".

They'll get the picture - quick.
    Really pisses em off, too.

Recently someone at my apartment complex gained access to my mailbox. Somehow they got my personal info and signed up for 3 fake CC accounts. In the meantime I moved. Once the bills started coming in due to the change of address, they were maxed out. Over $10K on each. So I call the credit bureau, police report, etc. I figure it is overl. Then this POS really starts to piss me off. He also stole those account balance transfer checks the send you for my two legit CCs. He attempts to payoff two of the fake cards. So all in it was close to $50k. It is all off my credit but it is still a pain in the ***.

The reason they buy gas so often is that it lets them check that the card is still working without having to interact with a person.

  19. They should keep a midget inside of gas pumps to kick these people in the nads or to throw a coke on 'em.

  20. filed a police report, had the card reported stolen, talked to my bank's branch...

now i wait for my money to get back in there, plus wait for my card... should get it next week.

You don't need a fancy machine and you don't need a card. I would fully suspect waiter(s).

All you need is the number and an accomplice.

I worked at Peppers at the Falls in San Marcos in college. We had a waiter get arrested after writing down several (many?) CC numbers and then getting his friends who worked other places to manually enter the numbers.

There was also a story on the local news recently about a waiter at a restaurant on Riverside who did something similar although I believe he went into full identity theft mode.

  25. well walmart has surveillance of the crooks making their transaction. hopefully they can be identified.

what kind of legal action can be taken against them by me.. obviously they have nothing to sue for... or they have a lot, but it's all hot, so worthless.

i want these ******** to pay.

I still don't understand why people use debit cards. Just get a credit card and pay the damn thing off every month. Some even have rewards. What exactly do you get from a debit card?
