1. Babers has already advanced too far in broadcasting. He should be working for one of those radio stations that only broadcasts to prison inmates. 2. Ron Franklin would be good for women's sports. 3. Seriously, bring back Glenn Brown.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Ooh Right ooh right ooh right! Craig Way: What did you think of that last play? Matthew: Didn't see it, I'm just L I V I N!
Bucky Godbolt, Brian Jones, Jeff Ward or Roger Wallace. Bucky would fit in nicely but it would be nice to get B.J. back in Austin. Ward pisses me off at times but the dude knows football.
Bill S. was so good, I don't even remember who was doing color. I honestly think he could cover both jobs at once, just leave him alone. for a funny vote, how about Dennis Miller?
Brian Jones would be fun to listen to as the color analyst on football games, but what about baseball? I have learned so much about baseball listening to The Big Red Head over the years. Great insight about what happens on the diamond, what happens in the dug out and locker room, and what happens behind closed doors. Getting Keith Moreland is definitely the Cubs gain and our loss. Best of luck, Hoss!
If what I heard at the baseball games this weekend is correct, it will be hard to get anyone good to do this job. The salary is not paid by UT, it is paid by the radio network, and is woefully low. It isn't really enough for a professional, maybe a young intern type would take it. If there is a retired pro who has their own fortune amassed, and would love to do the color commentary to be around the program, we might get someone good. Otherwise, I wouldn't hold my breath. I think it is Host Communications (?) that hires the color guy, not UT.
I'd be Ok with Bucky, he would have to tone down his schtick (which i love). I think he understands that would be appropriate for that particular job though. Dan Neill seems like a nice guy, but he garbles his words a bit much and often seems a little wishy washy to me.
For baseball, our own Bruce Ruffin would love to do it. He's a local hero, knowledgable, has experience with the Express broadcasts. A natural.
I like Dan Neil as a football commentator, but he is probably going to be awarded the state rep seat by the legislature, because they are going to decide that election, even though two recounts had him losing. So he might be unavailable for radio duty. Ruffin would be great for baseball, and maybe they will get a different color guy for football and baseball. That might be the best scenario.
