Congrats to our squads for some great individual performances and strong team finishes at the Big12 Meet. The men finished in 4th, and the women took 3rd, just 19 points behind champion NU. For the women Hall won the 1000, Chambers took the 600 and freshman Nelson placed 2nd in the 400 and 8th in the 200. We actually had three finish in the top six in the 400, and Malone finished 2nd and 3rd respectively in the LJ and TJ. Our 4x400 finished 2nd and look for them to go one better at the NCAA meet. We also had some pretty good finishes in other field events. The men also had some nice individual wins including Goodwin in the LJ and Stewart in the 60H. McGregor finished 2nd in the mile. Great job, Horns!

I like how the Womens Mile Relay gave Texas AM hell without Texas best 400 meter runner on the relay B.Nelson. Good Job Ladies!

I should have also mentioned Briscoe winning HJ above. Way to go Shanay! We had three freshman win events and a fourth took home both 2nd and 8th place finishes. Very excited about having these talented young women on board for four years!

Overseas!! Appreciate ur continued support. You are right that Texas Future is VERY bright. Our Freshman impact was very impressive and it's gonna be fun following them! I bet Bev couldn't be anymore proud of them.... Briana Nelson gave Clear Favorite Jessica Beard, a world champ, a run for her money in the 400.Kendra Chambers, i would definitely consider as a newcomer, switched from short sprints to mid-distance, and she did amazing.... My belief, if Texas got just one more point prior to 4x400, u woulda seen Angele in and we prolly would beat A&M in 4x400 PLUS total points. Briana Nelson is a stud though!! I am really proud of Marielle. Her early season results haven't been as good, but she grinded it out!

I know a few freshman didn't score, but when Allison Peter gets healthy, she's gonna be a force. Christy Udoh is a diamond in the rough that I think will only keep getting better alongside w/ Peter. Danielle is a natural long hurdler and will do great in outdoors. She has shown a lot of upside indoors though. A'lexus will also be a force to reckon with, with some experience and strength (a la Chantel Malone).

I hope the Freshman class really inspired & motivated the upperclassmen after this meet. They were very impressive. If we can get the same effort from the upperclassmen, i think our outdoor season could go very well.

The Horn Women are in 2nd after Day One of the NCAA Championships...great job!! Unfortunatley only one of our four entries in the 400 made the final, but we had others who did better than expected (Behm - 2nd in 5000 - wow! And Brisco and Lucas 2nd and 6th in the HJ!). Malone also finished 5th in the LJ; she was the top seed but still a nice finish for her. And even though only Cooper made the 400 final, to have four athletes finish top 14 in one event is great - and all return next year!

I don't think we have enough firepower tomorrow to hang with Oregon; they've got three qualifiers in the Mile final alone, and some other finalists as well. We have Cooper in the 400 Final, Malone in the Triple Jump, and the 4x400. Only way the Horns might pull it out is to finish first in all three events (I'd say the 4x400 is definitley possible if not likley, but not sure about the other two - near the top maybe, but actually winning the 400 or TJ would be a huge surprise).

Men did well also and are currently in 5th. Goodwin finished 3rd the LJ and we had two finish in the top 8 in the Shot. Stewart also qualified for the 60m Hurdles final.

Great job Horns!!! As always, very impressed with Bev. Given the big freshman class our team wasn't even ranked top 15 to start the season, and here we are in 2nd after Day One. I definitley think we have a great shot of finishing top 5, or better, in the team race.

Women had two 3rds and a 4th today and finished 2nd in the team race....geat job, esp since they weren't supposed to be that strong this year. Kudos to all the coaches including Brimmer and Sisson; great job Horns!

Men finished 10th in the team race so good job there - squad is young and they have a really great class coming in next season.

I don't know who the Horns have signed for next season, Dino. It's interesting to look forward to next year because Malone is the only one of the key contributors who won't be back. Of course, she's a big loss because she placed in both of her events and accounted for 9 of our 38 points. Another reason it's surprising we did so well is that some of our top athletes are coming back from injuries....Peter, Goodman, Masterson, Brannon and others...they all seem to be getting better and I can only imagine how good we might be when everyone is 100% again.

I also think our depth in the 400 has the potential to put us over the top in the future. I was looking at the results of the meet and Oregon scored 21 points in the mile. It seems that some of the winning squads in recent years have used that type of dominating performace in an event or two to pull away from the pack. With 4 runners finishing in the top 14 in the 400, and 2 placing in the HJ, we have the potential to do that same thing during Outdoor season, or next year.

I would still like to see us add just a couple of more to our current squad. Perhaps one top field athlete to replace Malone and one big time sprinter. We're got such a great sqaud, and are so close to being back on top and actually winning another NC, it would be nice to seal the deal with just a few more top recruits. And honestly, when you consider how good our program continues to be at developing top athletes, why would these HS stars want to go anywhere else? Seriously - we weren't even a top 15 program at the start of the season, and had a huge freshman class and a ton of injuries, and we just leap-frogged over a whole slew of talented and deep sqauds to take second in the country. It's amazing what Bev has done, and obviously Rose has done a phenomenal job with the field athletes (2nd, 3rd, 5th & 6th place finishes) and the same goes for Sisson with the distance squad - 2nd for Behm on top of the great performance our young XC team last Fall. Easily the best coaching staff in the country!

Great job by the ladies and nice finish for men too. Aggy has dominated T&F the past several years so it is good to see the Horns in a resurgence. [IMG]

The Best Is Yet To Come!
I am so happy for Bev and the Team. I know they work hard!
Hats off to K.Chambers for running the last 200 meters with a pull hamstring and still ran a 53.35.Boi if she would not have gotten hurt Texas would have gotten 1st or 2nd in the Mile Relay. She is good.
