i'm sure this has been on here before but whatever. i'm watching the spurs/heat game and they're doing the "el" , "los" thing with the uniforms. it's such a shame. i will readily admit that i'm a conservative lean but i would never endorse a sports team making political statements that favored a position i held. it's a sad day when you turn on the tube to tune in to something to escape from all of the ******** and you can't even watch sports without filthy politics. if you disagree, you're lying to yourself.
Being a 'conservative' means you hate other cultures? Who knew! I'm surprised you can stand sports with all the coloreds running around...
How exactly is it a political thing? Seems like it's purely business to me. SA is 60+% Hispanic; Miami is similar. There's a lot of money to be made if teams are successfully marketed in Latin America.
You guys just don't get it. Marketing to whites = marketing Marketing to minorities = a political statement It's not that complicated (as long as you see corruption behind everything that you don't like). In all seriousness, companies that depend on mass appeal are usually unlikely to make controversial political statements. If you want to understand their motivations, think about the motivations of your senior level management - winning more business and making more money. _______________________________________
I'm pretty conservative, and this is just marketing to Latinos. I think it's kinda goofy, but no way do I have an issue with it other than to just kinda roll my eyes. It's probably a good marketing tool.
Wow, a lot of cheap shots flying on this thread! I tend to agree with the OP. For what it's worth, I didn't care for the NFL wearing pink s**t this season and I don't like Bowls named FurnitureGallery.com Bowl and the like either.
Oops. I've been checked out a while. I thought it was another AZ immigration thing. My bad. Certainly no racism here, but nice try douchebags.
For the record - I didn't think the OP was racist. I can see how my remarks may have left that impression, so I wanted to clarify. I just don't see this as a political statement. ___________________________________________
One more reason I hate marketing people. I don't have a problem if they want to market to the Hispanic population, hell, if I were trying to make money I'd do the same thing. But, c'mon, "el heat", "los lakers", none of this half and half, go all in. I don't like my languages intermingling.
Many are going to have a hard time facing the fact that the white population will be a minority at some point. In some areas they already are and marketing thus is going to reflect that. What is the popullation breakdown in SA? When I go to east 7th street I don't complain b/c all the signs are in spanish. And is it hard to figure out what el heat or los spurs mean? Wait until they start announcing the game in Spanish.
dosent bother me in the slightest, also a conservative(libertarian). The celtics cater to the ethnic makeup of the Boston area, why not the other teams in the NBA.
This thread is El Stupid. They've been doing this for a few years, it's smart business, and as a "conservative", you should be able to appreciate that.
I'd like to see us wear Los Horns jerseys for a game this year. That would be awesome. Maybe put a sombrero insignia on the sleeve.
I am fine with them catering to the growing Hispanic population. I just think their attempt sucks. The majority of Hispanics (and pretty much everybody else) can't afford to take their family to a game. I really doubt putting "Los" on a jersey is going to change that.
Then the NBA needs to spend their time and money getting the message out that cheap seats are available. The common perception is that the NBA is expensive. I have been to a couple of games, sat in the cheap seats and paid more than $50, but that was the lakers. Sat in the cheap seats in Houston for maybe $25ish.
Come on, rickysrun, this is not El Stupid. It is El Estupido. Get with the program. Yes, it is a blantant political anti-conservative slap in the face to attempt to market to a population that will be in the majority in Texas right about now, or in the very near future. Can't be having any of that, can we?
Sat in the cheap seats in Houston for maybe $25ish. So not worth it. After parking, hot dog(s), coke, another ticket, you're looking at what, $80-$100 for some pretty lame "entertainment".
