I have a relative who is a Vietnam Vet who told me that "Hamburger Hill" was the most realistic Vietman War film in his opinion. It probably all depends on one's experience.

A Gulf War vet friend said the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan was the most realistic depiction of war that he has seen on film and it still bothers him to watch it.
The opening of SPR still bother's me to watch it and I have never been to war. Still not as disturbing as the scene from the same where the guy is fighting the German hand to hand in the building and the latter overpowers him and stabs him in the chest. That may be the most disturbing scene I have ever watched.
Mine would be in "The Pacific" where the solider from New Orleans was dropping pebbles into the skull of a Japanese solider whose top of his skull had been sheared off...........I still can't get that picture outta my mine!
