I'll be going up to Dallas for business next weekend and would like somewhere nice to stay that has good spa facilities and is nearby to nice restaurants (bringing the wife with me). Any recommendations?
somewhat on the pricey side, but you might want to look at the Stoneleigh hotel. It's got a spa facility, and about located in Uptown, which has dozens of good restaurants within walking distance or less than 5 minute cab ride.
I've got a job to do Saturday morning in Euless, so I think it's fairly central. I will have to pick up some stuff that morning near central Dallas (Lemmons Ave), so it might be good to stay in that area and then drive out to Euless, while the wife stays at the spa.
Euless is somewhat equal distant from Dallas and Ft. Worth, and during a weekday morning, traffic could be a bear. But, on a Saturday morning, you might not have too much trouble with getting to Euless from near downtown. Lemmon Ave runs E-W, about 1.5 mile north of downtown. The Stoneleigh (and any number of other upscale hotel-spa options) is just a few blocks south of Lemmon, FYI.
Awesome, the location sounds perfect. Went ahead and booked at Stoneleigh - what's the best steakhouse and best-non steakhouse (must try restaurant) in the area?
Within walking or short cab distance, you'll find a number of steak restaurants--Capital Grille, Perrys, Nick and Sams, Al Biernat's, Bob's Chop House, Ocean Prime, Morton's, Eddie V's. For non-steak restaurants, I'm not really your guy to ask, but I know there are a lot of good ones near Uptown. I would suggest looking up any of Stephan Pyles places, though. And there are a few new restaurants in the Arts District near the 7-11 headquarters that are good, too. Hope your wife enjoys the spa.
Great list of restaurants by dalhorn. The only one I would add as a non-steak place is Fearings in the Ritz. Abacus is also very good, but that is up closer to the Knox Street area, which is also a cool area to hang out. And if you are heading up that way, you might as well cross 75 on Knox and try Hibiscus (one of my personal favorites in Dallas). It is not known for its steaks (mainly other entrees), but it has my favorite ribeye in Dallas (and I know I am in the minority there, but it is just awesome every time I go).
Made reservations at Capital Grille for Friday and Fearings on Saturday - the wife said I had to take her when I asked.
Let me know what you thought. The Steak Oscar at Capitol Grille is really good. Fearing's is top notch.
We had a really good time - Euless wasn't that bad, and it only took 5 hours Saturday, so I had plenty of time for other stuff. I had the Kona crusted steak at Capital Grille and then the pork chop at Fearing's. Dean Fearing came by the table (I guess this is standard) and the service was excellent, as was the food.
