I was happy to see Brown carry the ball, and he looked good, but I think Fozzy may still be our best back at this point.

I'm just fine with a 3-back rotation of Fozzy, Brown, Monroe, and Cody as the short-yardage guy.

Now the criticism of Gilbert is becoming laughable. Some on this board will always have one eye on the rearview mirror and one eye on the backup quarterback regardless of who is starting. Give the guy a freaking break. He played a good game and showed a lot of promise. Call me crazy but I'm betting Brown, Harsin and Applewhite know a little more about quarterbacks than all the experts on this board screaming "Put Ash in!" And maybe, just maybe, they will do whatever is best for the team and puts them in the best position to win. Sometimes Horn Fans can out-aggie aggie.

"Give the guy a freaking break." He has had plenty of "breaks"! It is laughable when he is treated like a freshman, like he just stepped onto the field. He has had plenty of "breaks"!
What about the TEAM?Don't they deserve a qualified and talented QB?
Put in someone who has the capability of leading by example. We have enough cheerleaders. [IMG]

Seeing it first hand, I'll stand by what I said. If Gilbert is the QB all season, we're possibly looking at 6-6. The guy is just not good and he's showing no signs of significant improvement. And this was against Rice.

BigVegasHorn... Totally agree. The team is handicapped with GG at the helm. The talents of many are wasted due to bullheadedness of Mack. The start of the game last night was like Greg Davis never left.

I have been as down on GG as anyone at different times, and for the first quarter and a half or so I was thinking "nothing has changed" watching him out there. It seemed he was locked on to his chosen receiver from the instant the ball was snapped and was going to try to force the throw in to that guy right or wrong.

That said, somewhere around the point in the game where he took that rollout, saw the opening down the middle of the field, and took off running for the big gain, things changed. He seemed to get into the flow. He started doing a nice job of escaping the rush, recovering, and finding a receiver. As the game went on, I was paying attention to the direction he was looking on each play. It appeared to me, sitting in the end zone corner where I could see the width of the field well, that he was sweeping his view across the field on most occasions, evaluating where to go with the ball and making mostly good choices.

The pitch was an inexcusable brain fart, and thankfully it didn't bite us. Apart from that, for the latter 2/3 of the game what I saw was a very capable guy out there running the show, doing the right things for the most part.

If we have a magic freshman who takes over at some point because he's just so good we can't keep him out of the job, all to the good. I don't see any reason to **** on GG for last night's performance, though. In no way did it appear to me that he did anything to lose his gig; I thought he played rather well in a brand new scheme. Nor did I see anyone else show so strongly that they could lay claim to taking it away.
