We need to go indy. and get it over with. COLUMBIA | The fractured Big 12 Conference attempted to join hands and unify Thursday night, but Missouri’s grip may not be as tight. Not only did MU chancellor Brady Deaton and athletic director Mike Alden decline to confirm the university’s commitment in the long or short term to the Big 12, the Tigers’ interest in the Southeastern Conference is very much alive. aggy going to the SEC was idiotic; Missouri going to the SEC would be a death wish. At least aggy will be able to dust of fthe FedEx account.
Baylor's definitely the boogeyman under the bed. Unless Baylor can be satisfied that it will wind up in a AQ conference, BU will continue to hold a (litigation) gun up to everyone's head. Lawsuits tend to freeze the movement.
Missouri has the most over inflated sense of self worth of any school in the country. Even more than the ags. This is an athletic department that has produced only 7 conference championships across all sports since the formation of the Big 12. For reference, Texas has 114, Baylor, an athletic department most people consider an also ran, has 42. They might have the St. Louis and Kansas City markets (debatable), but they sure don't actually compete at anything athletically.
Missouri is the biggest realignment harlot in the Big 12--bigger than the SECeding Aggies. Missouri started this whole thing in the summer of 2010 when they tried to get into the Big Ten, but the Big Ten shooed them away and got a real program, Nebraska. Now they're trying to get to the SEC, where they will be steamrolled every single week in every single sport for eternity. We are trying to make this Big 12 thing work, and if we're going to make this work, we need schools who are committed to staying together. If Missouri keeps this up, the Big 12 should kick them out of the conference (I remember that being suggested in the summer of 2010) and add BYU and TCU to get back to ten.
atxbomber, And three of their seven championshps aren't even championships but Big-12 NORTH football championships.
Don't forget Missouri is the "show me" state. They think it means "show me the money" or "show me the love". I think it means "show them their ***" or "show them the door".
Mizzou: I want Tier 3 LHN money, I want relevance, I want Texas talent,...... DeLoss: You get nothing and like it!!
According to this real in-depth background story on 'the Bark' Linky, Missouri has been the problem child from the beginning and even led to the nervous britches of Nebraska. On the argument side of things, why does anybody want to go anywhere else than where they are? All programs and conferences are now on television -- whereas 30 years ago it was only 5 times over two years, and on 2 networks combined. Something crazy that a law suit by OU and Georgia ended. Now it's open house with everyone on the tube. And more than enough money that was unheard of ten years ago. The real question is: do you have a quality university and athletic department in the first place? The jealousy and envy of Texas is remarkably ignorant and misplaced. I recommend anyone take the time to read a complete Wikpedia outlay of Stanford University and Harvard. It will blow your mind. The only way to be in a close conference relationship with those schools is just one way: actually be somebody yourself and have your act together. For Missouri their idea of a conference alignment is to take a step down. Just like A&M has done. To think that TV contracts is the only freaking thing that matters in the sum total of a university... I have no words in response. Just plain ignorant and short-sighted. Well I'm to the point now of just making up the conference with schools that sincerely appreciate being in the conference. Base membership on old-fashion ideals and value. Do you love being a part of it? Are you proud to be a part of it? Are you grateful? Are you inspired to develop and make the most of the opportunity? Then welcome. Glad to have you! We're proud you're here and grateful to have the opportunity to compete and form institutional relationships!! To the rest... just go.
Given the controversy over the SEC offer involving Missouri, the SEC would be foolish to offer Missouri an invitation. The Big-12 and Baylor would almost certainly have to sue if an invitation is offered.
