OU is 5 for 5 on getting awarded conference / national title game berths when there was a legitimate argument for other teams to get the spot instead. Nobody other team has come close to being so favored in the controversies. If there is a controversy for an MNC game spot, OU probably gets it no matter who else also deserves it, and even if that team's (or multiple teams') loss was a much better loss than OU's, and even if that team's loss came earlier than OU's.

Shirely this would be the year that Boise would get the slot over the one-loss OU. But hopefully, Stanford wins out and makes it "moo." And it's not inconceivable that Okie State beats OU this year, they do have a 30 year old professional quarterback.

OSU still has KSU, Tech and ISU before OU and right now about anyone of those teams can hand them a big "L" that would end their run. But, assuming for now they win those games, then it comes down to the OU game. OU has aggy, BU and ISU left. No matter how good OSU has been in prior years they can't seem to beat the Sooners. So, depending on the fate of the teams ranked above OU, the Sooners could very well be in the MNC game. [IMG]

OU will lose at least one more game this year. They have too many weaknesses. But, for laughs, let's say they win out and play the SEC champ in the BCS championship game. Given that their last 3 times in it they lost 21-14, 55-19, and 24-14, and their only win was 13-2 against an FSU squad that was missing a key player to a suspension, I would be amused to see what either LSU or Bama would do to them this year. I enjoy watching OU get embarrassed repeatedly on a national stage. When Texas is down, like this year, it becomes my entertainment.

"the idea of OU being ranked ahead of Oregon is an abject failure of humanity." ________________________________________________________ I'm racking my brain to remember a good team Oregon has beaten to deserve such respect. Oh yea, ArizSt . I would say should Ore win vs USC and at Stan then there lone loss at LSU (4 hr flight and 85,000 LSU fans at JerryWorld) should push them ahead of ou. Should bama lose at home then I don't believe they should go. Their best road win is at overrated PennSt. If LSU loses at bama they should trump any other 1 loss team due to the win at WV, the ore win and only loss on road at #1. I'm hoping Stanford wins out to prevent a team with experience losing from playing for the title...

Well ou won't have to worry about a Conference championship game and the chance of losing 35-7 again this year. Oh wait...that didn't hurt them then either did it???/

if OU makes it in the MNC, you can pin a bunch of the blame on Mr. Tommy at Tech.

He could have made sure it was a 14+ beating, but decided to get cute on two stupid calls.

    1. going for it on fourth down, ahead by either 14 or 17. Failure.

Then choosing a fake punt around midfield, again ahead by around 10-14 points. failed again.

If he makes the correct decisions on both of those calls, OU doesn't come any where near the lead. Instead we have a 3 point Tech win.

But, I kind of agree with whoever said it would be kind of fun to watch an SEC team beat them by 3 TDs+, say 42 to 17 or something.

One big caveat, I expect the human polls to try to take this out of the computers hands, if a 0 loss Boise is sitting there. I fully expect them to vote Boise #1 to get Boise into the championship game ahead of OU.

call it "voter nullification" if you will.

prop joe is right, tam will mud hole the boomers. last weeks loss to mizzu was planned, they lost on purpose to put ou in the soft, "we got those a&m losers this week, so let's loaf, play dead, not try, etc" and tam sneaks in to Norman and Pearl harbors the sooners.

It probably would have been even worse for the Noles if they had Minnis' services that night. The reason Weinke was able to put up the kind of numbers he had was because 1) FSU played a bunch of bad defenses (only one was ranked in the top 25, and that was Louisville, but their strength was against the run) and 2) Richt's offense was all about sending 3-4 guys on vertical routes and having an NFL-caliber OL provide an ungodly amount of protection for Weinke to make an easy throw to Minnis or Boldin or Walker or Gardner or which ever NFL-caliber WR got open in the second level. Richt had to do something that he hadn't done in a very long time for that Orange Bowl: he had to devise a gameplan outside of that "send em all deep" mentality. Since that was so far removed from their personality, the Noles' offense got shut out. If Minnis plays in that game, Richt would have made Weinke a sitting duck.

Pretty sure Florida lost at home to an unranked team - when Tebow apologized to his followers - then went on to win the MNC recently.

So don't think it's not possible. It just shouldn't happen.

    on a side note

crazy that weinke only got the start in 98 because kendra had a neck issue. wonder if he would have performed as well in 99 without that year under his belt.

    end side note.

The SEC respect is the wild card.

If LSu and Bama play a 14-10 War, the rematch will be called for provided both win out.

This isn't Texas-OU or Michigan-OSU playing a 1-2 game. The SEC is way more respected.

Good God, it'll kill me if OU gets the benefit of YET ANOTHER championship game appearance. They're batting 1.000 when it comes to getting the nod over clubs that have a pretty good case to go instead of them (e.g. after getting shithammered in the last game of the season vs. KSU, overTexas in 2008).

That said, there's no way a team that lost a home game to a 30-point underdog should go over:

1 Undefeated Boise. Yeah, I know, I know. Undefeated Boise has gotten passed over before. But the perception of the mid-majors has changed a lot over the past few years, with victories by Utah, Boise, and TCU (all over BCS conference teams). Plus, the voters have a kind of "lifetime achievement" bias where schools who live in the top-10 get the benefit of the doubt. Boise wasn't like that 5 years ago, but they're a top-10 fixture now).

    2) One-loss Oregon. They'd have a victory over another top-5 school (Stanford), and their loss was to LSU on a neutral field in the first game of the year.

    3) One-loss Stanford (presumably losing to Oregon).

    4) (and I think this is the biggie). The pro-SEC clamor will be deafening if a one loss OU looks like they'd get the nod over the LSU-Bama loser. Deafening. And as I said in another thread, I'm sick of the "SEC SEC" ********, but they'd be dead right.

If #4 looks like it's gonna happen (OU over 1-loss SEC team), bet your bottom dollar that there's going to be some ballot doctoring (a la Art Briles 2008). Voters.... especially those in the southeast... are going to put OU below every team that has any semblance of an argument to be ranked higher than them. People will turn in ballots that look like:
    1 LSU/Bama
    2 Bama/LSU
    3 Boise State
    4 Houston
    5 Oregon/Stanford
    6 OU

I don't think OU will be able overcome the home loss to Tech to end up at #2.
Tech will probably end up ranked outside the top 25, so the computers will favor a one loss 'Bama/LSU or Stanford team.

Not to stir up trouble, but where would the one-loss SEC west team, LSU or Alabama, which doesn't go to the SEC championship game, be ranked? Wouldn't they be ranked ahead of the one-loss OU?
And what are the realistic chances of the undefeated Boise being ranked ahead of one-loss OU?

OU has another thing in its favor.

There will not be a rematch of LSU/Bama for the championship because of too many villagers with torches and pitchforks.

The network suits will cheat the BCS numbers to make that happen. Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain. Why do you think they won't tell everybody exactly how it's done? OU won the hot hand perception battle in 2008 because of their beatdown of Tceh, this year will be the same thing if they beatdown Oklahoma State in their house. The difference is that this year they might actually deserve it.
