We are officially bowl eligible. We have two losses. With our future schedule ahead of us, a great feel good victory at home and all things considered, where do you hope we end up? Is this the same as where you think we end up? I know the BCS is out, we all do. I think Cotton is out, a longshot. I am thinking ALAMO BOWL as a great ending for us. It is no longer the 4th prize, rather 3rd and plays a higher tiered PAC team. It's close to home, we will pack that place, easy road trip and a good cap to a turn around season to set up next year. Alamo, I want to remember it.
Cotton's not out if OU and OSU both go to BCS game. This is completely possible if OU wins out and OSU only loses to OU. Not that I want that to happen, but it isn't unlikley. OU might go to a BCS bowl if they only lose to OSU from here out, but that's less likely for a 2 loss team with one being a crappy Tech team that's now been completely exposed. But I agree that Alamo Bowl seems most likely assuming we can get past the next three games. Baylor is the only one that doesn't concern me much. Which is why we could lose it...
Mack said he's going to let hornfans vote on whether, or not they should accept a bowl bid if they finish with a 6-6 record.
That would be interesting indeed. Even if there was no way it could happen and a team cannot turn down a bowl bid, it would make for some interesting chaos.
Providing the Pac 12 does not send two teams to BCS games it could be Oregon or Stanford in the Alamo.
Cotton is not a longshot at all. We play KSU. Also, if we win out, you never know what will happen with BCS. OSU always seems to end up 9-3. I don't think we will be there but I don't thInk it's a non starter. As I type this K St ties it up.
We win out we could make the Cotton. Either OU wins out and OSU is probably in the BCS with 1 loss, or OU and us both have 2 losses. Then does the Cotton take the hot team or the team that killed them earlier in the year. I think we'd be the better fan draw as we'd see the game as a step in the right direction and they would see it as a consolation prize.
^if that were scenario I think a 2 loss OU team gets at large BCS. After looking at OSU's remaining schedule, assuming an OU loss, they are going to finish 11-1 and get an at-large at worst. So yeah we are probably out of BCS assuming a 10-2 record. Question, if we do win out and finish ranked in top 10, what are rules about 3 teams in BCS? Let me caveat all this by acknowledging I know how far fetched this is for us. I think if we finish 10-2 we go Cotton; 9-3 Alamo. Both would be great results. I love this team.
I love this board. Two weeks ago most were saying we would be lucky to be better than 6-6. I've said all along we would end 8-4. What bowl(s) would we be eligible for with that record?
After yesterday's scramble it would seem that OU and OSU have BCS bids in their pocked. If we win out Cotton seems possible. More than likely I think we will loose at least once more.. In the bowl pecking order Cotton gets first pick of non bcs. Alamo gets next pick. If we loose one game it would seeme likely Cotton for KSU and Alamo for horns. The great thing about Alamo is the number one non bcs pick. Almost surely Stanford or Oregon sems likely. If UCLA wins the title game then the looser of Stanford Oregon comes to Alamobowl.
I love how all of the "doom&gloom" after the OK State game has turned into 10-2 predictions. Orange-tinted brains unite! I'm still saying 8-4 with an outside shot at 9-3. KSU's run game with the long passes mixed in looked a little scarier than the offenses we've seen the last two weeks. I still think A&M pulls their cajones off of the floor and beats us at home before they jump ship. And Missouri will be tougher than some realize. Holiday Bowl would love to have us fall into its lap. Not seeing Cotton (I think OK State beats OU). I don't think we'll fall far enough for the Insight or Texas Bowl.
I predicted 10-2 before the season. Although I still see that as possible and hold out hope for, I have adjusted my expectation down to 9-3. I think we probably drop one more, but the pride the team has shown post OSU bodes well for a strong finish. If I could get a for sure win at aggy & mizz today, I would gladly accept 8-4. Common Horns, show me my temporary wavering from 10-2 was foolish!!!
The Alamo Bowl would be awesome. Had a great time seeing Colt and the Horns beat Iowa. Its a higher tier bowl than it has been in the past. Plus, we get to enjoy Christmastime on the Riverwalk. A burnt orange sea of partisan fans would just what these young Horns need to close out a successful season.
Thursday December, 29th at 8 p.m. That means an entire day of tailgating. Maybe a stop at lunch to Chris Madrid's then to tailgate, then game. Not a bad day at all. I hope this happens.
Good point, did not think about it that way but I did predict we would be 9-3. I would love to be wrong. It sure would not be the first time nor near the last.
If OU and Texas both finish 9-2 (a possibility for OU with Broyles out), we might be perceived as the "hot" team and get the invite to the Fiesta.
fiesta Texas...we pull the reverse hot team on ou ...nobody ever remembers the outcome in october ,remember...I will never forget ...the horror the horror...
One at a time, and the Bowl situation will work itself out. With each win it increases the bowl we go to!!!!
I say Cotton. Haven't played there since 2003 edition. A Texas Arkansas match-up would be very attractive for the Bowl reps.
