    Interesting idea
"House Speaker John Boehner said Thursday he will soon introduce legislation that would pay to fix the nation's crumbling infrastructure by increasing domestic energy production.

Money for roads, bridges and water projects would be financed through existing royalties and other taxes paid by companies allowed to expand domestic oil and gas drilling. The bill would make it easier for those companies to obtain drilling permits and make it easier to build nuclear power plants.

"This is a new, devoted revenue stream," Boehner, R-Ohio, told a group of reporters. "As American-made energy production increases, so too does the revenue for infrastructure projects."

Just an hour or so after Boehner's announcement, Senate Republicans blocked a $60 billion infrastructure bill proposed by Democrats that would have paid for the infrastructure projects with a .07 percent tax increase on those earning $1 million a year or more. The proposal had been part of President Obama's $447 billion job creation package, which failed earlier in Congress."
    The Link

So not only would our infrastructure get rebuiltwith the jobs created to rebuild it but there would be thousands of goodpaying jobs created as expansion of drilling occured.
and this does not need a tax increase to pay for it.

Hopefully it will get get serious consideration.

I would be for it if they could assure that there really would be a "devoted revenue stream".

    93?
You are assuming something not known yet.
But I guess you look at all BO's cronies who have benefitted and assume.

It could clearly and likely will happen but we don't know that yet.

On the face of it what is it you don't like about the plan

How about do both bills instead of knee jerk no votes? It's not as if there are a shortage of infrastructure projects to decide from.

Both are good ideas, both deserve passage- and infrastructure projects foster commerce, job growth, costs savings and tax revenues over the long run- paying for many other things.

Sorry- just a voice from the moderate side not simply rooting for one side to fail.

infrastructure project offer a net negative return. we have tried this before. japan has tried this for 20 years. they love to cook the books on all the alleged multipliers etc, but it is all ********. infrastructure is not going to save the economy, and is simply going to add to the debt.

Really, the Hoover Dam worked? Really please explain?

This is what happens when blind ideology trumps reality. We had a live example barely 2 years ago - from losing about 750,000 jobs/month to creating about 125,000 jobs/month due to the stimulus plan.
    Please prove this.....

Talk about beating a dead horse and they say Conservatives can't think for themselves!!

If stupid people on the right start chanting that infrastructure projects are a liberal conspiracy to tax the rich and drive up the debt- I swear I'm going postal on them.

Smart infrastructure has made the country what it is today- and yeah- the Hoover Dam is exhibit A. The interstate highway system exhibit B.

I read one report that suggested if we spent $1.5B on advanced IT systems for our nations airports to better manage air traffic and plane routes we could lower congestion costs and delays by $5 billion over 5 years. Just one example- thousands more exist.

Some of you guys have your head so far up your as$ in partisan hatred it will never ever come back out.

I've posted these links over and over but for those who won't let facts come in the way of a belief system, it is pointless. Still, here they are:

Wait, so gov't can't create jobs and should get their hands off business, except when the Republicans introduce a bill, right?

Seriously what is your idealogy? That gov't size needs to be decreased and we need to let the 'free market' work? And isn't this wealth distribution? Why should the oil/gas drilling companies be required to pay taxes that will finance roads, bridges, and water projects.

I have another idea....raise the taxes slightly on the very wealty and use that to help repay small business loans that hire 10 or more people and stay afloat for 1-2 years.

It's hilarious that you used that link as a positive message about the stimulus.Having said that, I wouldn't deny that there were some jobs "created or saved". The accounting used to determine this has already been shown to be fraudulent, but the very fact that the government is pumping money into a business dictates that they will have more ability to meet payroll

    Having said that...

Obama has been a disaster for the economy. When Obama is defeated in the next election, it will be based almost solely on the crappy economy and lack of jobs. Do you agree?
