After reading all the posts about this I realize I'm in the minority of Texas fans. Having said that I say we keep this game regardless of conference affiliation. There is no good reason not to keep this game. I can't begin to describe in words what this game has meant to me and my family over the years and I certainly can't blame the aggies for doing what they feel is best for them. I'm not one who thinks they made a move to spite THE University of Texas. They made the move in hopes of furthering their program. Same as we made a move with the LHN to further ours. But this game is bigger than both UT and aggie. It's a Great State of Texas Thanksgiving tradition. Players who played against each other in with each other in high school play in this game every year. Families come together and root against each other during this game every year. It's televised Nationally almost every year. It brings in lots of revenue to both universities every year. It's bragging rights EVERY year! In my mind losing this game is nothing but a shame.

GO LONGHORNS! Beat the hell out of A&M! [IMG]

    Nothing is forever.

Aggy needs to take a vacation from their intense hatred that is destroying their soul. Let them go and get a little perspective on life. Deloss Dodds is doing them a favor, but they are to stupid to realize it.

They want the game becasue we are all that matters to them. They need to find another reason to live than us.

The negative bond between us needs to be broken for a few years and come back with cooler heads in about 15 years.

I am also with ViperHorn. The aggies cried about how unfair Texas was and how they wanted to prove they didn't need Texas. Then as soon as they left, the first thing they said is they want to keep playing Texas.

I don't see why we should do them any favors.

Let the Ags go. I am tired of their whining. Let them go to a good confernce and enjoy the competion. I see no reason to play them in any sport.

You're in the minority of fans and clearly havent been keeping up with what is going on. In any event:

    1) outside of last year, the aggy's have been barely ranked when we played them, so it has little significance
    2) Going with 1, it does nothing for us other than act as a spoiler since that's about the only role aggy has played in the last 12 years outside our 2 down years
    3) Aggy left. They initiated the conversation with the SEC, they went through with it. After saying last year the were with keeping the big 12 together and taking the larger allocation of their money AND not giving back the exit fees for nebby and CO. We at no point asked them to leave or encouraged to leave or spurn them in any way.

From a pure business perspective, if someone closes relations with you to do business with a competitor, you wish them on their way and dont burn bridges, but you dont just up and start dealing with them again just cause they "miss the deals they did with you". You let them take their new relationship and run with it.

And thats how we go here. Deloss has been incredibly professional (at least externally) about the whole thing and has basically ignored the aggs. That is how it should be.

Once the current AD of aggy is fired, then maybe we'll talk. For now, aggy can enjor their SEC SEC SEC without us.

F'em. I can always get my fix of aggy misery when the lose (Especially often in SEC). They ended it and are happy to do it. So good-bye.

Let the aggy go away for good. Don't let the door hit them in the ***. They want to play us so they can recruit better in Texas, anything else they say about the game with us is total ********. The only thing left for the future is will aggy be the LSU ***** or BAMA *****! [IMG]

    Screw anm. Here's the thing....

at some point, very soon, either the SEC or b12 will require t-giving weekend be reserved for conf games of significance (at tv network's demand). When that happens we'd play aggy in September.

No one would be interested in that. T-giving weekend makes for over half the interest in this (so called) rivalry. Play aggy in late September? Count me out. It would turn the series into a UT- SFA type of series for us.

Just let it go. Aggy will scream and holler, let em make noise. We're moving forward without them.

Not keeping up much with the news? They wanted out. They left. They got what they wanted , and now they can enjoy the time in the SEC. You cannot crave independence from TEXAS, then also argue your existence is dependent on TEXAS. When the next realignment occurs..in a 100 years according to your president..then we will consider it.
OOC game in B/CS or Los Angeles..hmmm.?

Fire Tunnel......I have had to live in Oklahoma for most about half of my life....trust me when I tell you that "respect" is nowhere for Texas by ou fans. They don't respect us they hate us. They all think we are underachievers and that anything that comes from this state SUCKS! This despite the fact that the majority of their good teams were young men from Texas. [IMG] I even remember them saying that their rivalry with Nebraska was one of respect because of the "old Big VIII days" but that the rivalry with Texas is of a border war of hatred.
Forgive me for going off topic but I couldn't let that one go....

Lastly.....this rivalry with A&M goes back further than anyone who is alive today. This rivalry is not about the current fans and administrations....it's about Texas! I respect that you all are entitled to your opinions but I don't share them with you. I've been watching this game since the early 70's.....I am one Longhorn fan that will miss this Thanksgiving weekend, rivalry weekend game. [IMG]

Zsub's point is a good one. When you have a program that traditionally underachieves, plays top 40 level football most years, and then plays one game against you like it's their chance to get into heaven with a win, what do you gain by playing them? No one outside of Texas cares about this game with anything beyond casual interest. A win does nothing for our national reputation and a loss generally derails the season.

As I've said before, the difference between the OU game and the A&M game is that with OU, there is honor Ina game well played, win or lose. There is no honor in beating the Aggies, and there is certainly no reason that the game should ever be lost. A UT loss to A&M has always been a symptom of a problem on the UT side of the ball. It is never acceptable, and as a result, even the wins are only satisfactory in that they shut up the opposition for a few days until they jump on the bandwagon of whoever we play next.

No good reason not to play? I can't think of a good reason to keep it going!

We don't need them. They need us. They chose otherwise.

Have a nice life - just get out of ours with all your hatred and pettiness.

Long as I have been around, speaking in decades, OU has been a great rivalry based largely on mutual respect and relative evenness in competition.

Regards A&M, for that same period, going back to the 60s, and for decades following, I tend to have had no thought one way or the other about A&M. It was a great game and rivalry, but of a friendly sort being all-Texas (moreso than OU), but without the venom that has evolved in recent years from the aggie side of it.

But, in just the past 10 years the venom and mindless vitrol from Aggie is enough for me. The game was okay, of course, but A&M has played out their hand as a sour competitor, and I'm glad for the SEC move if it will get them the hell out of the picture.

It's the aggie attitude that has soured me. I never in my life previously had any kind of "attitude" toward a&m until recently. With the advent of the Internet beyond email -- more instant social media, blogs, bulletin boards, facebook, twitter -- the "in your face" attitude of A&M fans and their basic disdain for The University of Texas is simply intolerable to me anymore.

    It's not funny.
    It's not entertaining.
    It's mindless and useless.

Why on earth be related to that university anymore? Period.
If the move to the SEC had not come about, I was fed up with A&M already.

The base problem -- in MY OPINION -- is (a) vane haughty hubris pride from A&M fan base (b) all venom directed solely toward Austin and The University of Texas in a way that really isn't either clever or worth anybody's while.

There are professors who cross between the institutions. Trained at one, teach at the other. And so forth. A lady professor from UT teaching at A&M said in her life she never noticed any obsessive preoccupation from Longhorns over A&M. But once at A&M she has noticed an outright constant obsession over it. (She was quoted in a news article that did a survey on such matters, around the time of the ensuing realignment).

This is the crux of it. For A&M fans it's an obsession that takes on dysfunctional behavior bordering on 7th grade school boy mentality by the lockers during break between classes. It's drunken beer talk and foolishness.

A rivalry is one thing, but idiocy and just crazy ******** is another. A&M has gone too far in its culture and anti-UT ********, and it was on full-blown demonstration with the SEC-SEC-SEC rally cry that basically was a way of telling UT and the Big 12 to "just shove it up your *** -- we're going to go play with the big boys and **** in tall cotton."

That's the message, to a "T" to The University of Texas. Where's the honor in any of that?

The University of Texas can enjoy sports competition much more with just about any other program other than A&M. Key words is "enjoy." Life should carry a degree of joy to it, even in fierce collegiate sports. Harvard and Yale can do it without the ******** that comes out of A&M. Cal and Stanford can. Can't speak for Auburn and Alabama, or Ohio State and Michigan.

A&M has simply worn out it's welcome. Even before the realignment. The game was cancelled for a few years a century ago due to problems. All along, A&M has had a pisspoor attitude toward UT.

It's called disresepct. And it was never more evident than in the drive to leave and join the SEC.

    Good-bye.

Agree with Hu Fan on many points. I have grown weary of the Aggies and their delusions. Their quaint antics are no longer amusing. I would enjoy a new rivalry game on T-giving, preferably with WVU. Or even TCU.

The rivaly is dead. Long live the (new) rivalry!

I agree with saying "don't let the door hit you in the ***..." The hatred got to the point where they called Colt "cart" and we know why. The thing is Colt is a guy that your typical Aggie would probably actually love if he knew him, yet they hate Texas so much they applaud a cheapshot against a good guy. This is where it goes to far. I also agree with the idea of why play a school where a win has no upside but instead we have to endure almost a psychotic level of effort from them in which a loss is very damaging to us. Don't play them. If they are mad at Texas or think it's not fair then why would they want to play Texas? It doesn't make sense. But that's Aggy.... I've always laughed about the "T-sip" insult. Are they calling Longhorns gay? I guess I'm not sure about that one but it's funny to hear someone try to insult another and have it actually not mean anything or have no effect (yet they break it out every day).

    The pride of a nut-grabber....
