Deloss Dodds has made no public effort to keep A&M in the Big 12 or continue playing them. His earlier quotes were less than sincere abou the rivalry coming to an end. As opposed to his comments about continuing on with the OU rivalry, he is happy to let aggy move along. This reason is simple, within the athletic department, the general view is that A&M is like a "ball and chain" to Texas. We are actually pleased to be rid of this ball and chain and can make decisions without regard to them. Freedom!!!
They already knifed us in the back, I don't think he was that eager to give them a second shot at it.
I haven't agreed with him on every decision, but I do this one...100%. Shut the door and don't look back. They made their bed...now they can cry in it.
It will be interesting to watch how much buyer's remorse sets in for aggy over the next few years. Losing the game with us (hilarious that they would walk out and just expect us to take them back) has already started that ball rolling. Couldn't have happened to a more deserving bunch
Aggy is confident that once mean old Deloss is gone the next AD will welcome them with open arms...don't bet on it.
Question #1 for prospective AD's post Deloss: -How do you feel about scheduling aggy in ANYTHING? If ANY answer BUT screw them forever, NEXT!!!!! And we should all start praying that Plonsky does not get a heads up on the first question and blows it. Not that Plonsky blows ANYTHING mind you.....
I've never been more giddy over a last second UT win. It was imply awesome. I hope NONE of the Big 12 schools schedules aggy or mizzou EVER.
i dont understand the hatred for a&m leaving. we tried to do the same thing but the pac-12 wouldnt take us with our network so we stayed. it's a great rivalry and it should stay in place. we don't have anyone to get excited about beating other than ou every year. its pretty expensive paying $4000 a year for foundation and season tickets and having our best game a year be optional and at a neutral site. I know for a fact deloss has pissed off a lot of big time boosters. his days are numbered and then the series will be back on.
At some point in the future, cooler heads will prevail. I'll bet we're back to playing them on Turkey Day before 5 years pass. You can't just flush 118 years of hatred down the drain like that. You saw how pumped both sides were on Thursday. Do you really think that playing Tech or Baylor would generate that kind of excitement?
You would think "big time boosters' would be astute businessmen. DeLoss has done an outstanding job of making TEXAS the #1 revenue producing program in the country, which from a business point of view is not easily ignored. If any of these identified boosters would trade what DeLoss has created for an aggy football game and a Door Number Three AD, he needs to be excommunicated from the program. Playing aggy ever again only helps THEIR program. We don't need them, and every TEXAS fan I know has no desire to be around them again.
What Burnt Orange Bevo said. Thu was aggy's LAST chance to rewrite their losing history and everyone associated w their program KNEW it. We're spending Christmas Day with Mrs' aggy PHD cousin and his little maroon clad darlings. Another cousin who graduated from aNm and his family will be there, too. Can you IMAGINE the **** we'd get from them if they'd won? I can recalculate the score if I stop and think about it. If they'd won, they'd have it in brick and mortar in front of the house with the word "FOREVER" underneath. I still expect retarded crap over the PF call but I have a copy of the vid showing the hit so I can play it for them, not that it will matter. And it's goodbye to aNM... DeLoss, we got your back. m/
For the life of me I can not understand the few LONGHORN fans lamenting the fact we will not play aggy again. This game has deteriorated to something for aggy to either accuse us of, or celebrate an injury to one of our players. Neither benefit Texas. This game if continued, would only benefit aggy recruiting. TEXAS will not loose one recruit if we no longer have aggy on the schedule, not one. No benefit to TEXAS. Any game we play on Thanksgiving, regardless of opponent will be televised. No additional benefit for TEXAS. aggy chose to end the 100+ year relationship, not TEXAS. aggy chose to ignore all the reasons proposed by those wanting the game to continue.....until they realized what not playing TEXAS would do to their recruiting in state. But even now, recognizing their mistake, they can't be truthful and say "we made a mistake by following a path of action that discontinued this game". No they have to accuse TEXAS of again being the evil-doers that are causing the game to end. If long years of tradition are so important, why aren't they clamoring to continue the Baylor game as well?? Any Longhorn fan who supports continuing this game is just helping aggy while they are laughing at you behind your back.
There is absolutely no upside for us to play a@m ever again. Same goes for misery. It would only benefit them.
Tonight I heard the aggie radio voice guy wishing everyone a merry Christmas and a happy new year from the aggie nation or some such. I thought what a strange thing for an outsider university to do. It was kind of like hearing one of those Mormon image ads they come up with every few years just to let the rest of us know they are still around.
They kicked us, blamed us, stabbed us in the back and took their ball and ran. I will not miss them, their attitudes or their delusioal fan base and hope we have seen the last of them. To play them again in any sport will be of no benefit to Texas and Texas does not need them. Let them take their "new tradition of the month" mentality elsewhere and don't let the door kick you in the ***.
And in addition to all of the excellent points already made: I suspect that Dodds recognizes what we suspect - that A&M will likely lose at least 3-4 games each year in the SEC. Which means they will expect a middling bowl berth at best. Which means that their season will ride on beating TEXAS. And that if we win, we are expected to, and it doesn't help our season, recruiting or schedule. If we lose, as we may (it's college football), we lose everything (particularly as it would be a late season loss). It's not a national marquee matchup like TX-OU - it's A&M. F them
2 words. Radio and Cart. When you have a fan base that makes fun of the mentally challenged and hoots and hollers when your star QB is late hit and is hurt, you have a team that is not worth your time EVER playing again. They are the sickest fans I've ever seen and my vote is NO now and forever. We upgraded adding TCU and WVU. At least beating those school will carry some national significance. More then the 2 that left. I'd have liked to have kept NU once that maniac of a coach gets fired, but the rest brought nothing of significance one way or another.
Do not schedule them in any sport. If we meet in a Bowl or tourny, so be it, but make them schedule out of state as much as possible. I hope the rest of the Texas schools follow suit.
I'd be really surprised if LSU, Bama, Arky, Fla or any SEC school would want to play Texas the week before their CCG. There would be no upside and plenty of downside. And ditto from our perspective - nothing to be gained and lots to lose if we should lose. Ags are no different from the other SEC schools, except they would be in the bottom of the SEC, which would make it even worse.
I never understood how anyone could call it a rivalry when Texas had a better winning percentage at Kyle Field than aggy. Screw them, go away. And those of you wanting to keep it going you are in agreement with Craig James, that alone would be all I needed to change my mind.
Could it be that Dodds blames aggy for screwing up the move to the Pac12? Was that a done deal with no problems for LHN? I know it became a problem but at the time the five schools were to move over I didn't think it was a problem. aggy objected and everyone pulled back. At least that is my understanding. Corrections? As some one said above there is no ball and chain any longer and UT will be free from political influence to go wherever we choose.
After a time, I think we’ll actually miss those freaks. Part of the fun of college sports is having a rival that you truly dislike, and it was easy to dislike the ridiculousness of aggy: their delusions of grandeur, idiotic traditions, and “military” pretensions. And OU doesn’t really do it for me now. I’ve actually developed a grudging respect for the land thieves throughout all the conference realignment crap. They don't whine about the LHN, the "biased refs", the "players our money can buy", etc. They’re perfectly willing to just settle things on the field, and they do. I kind of like having a rival that I genuinely disrespect, like aggy, and I’m not sure who is going to fill that role going forward.
