Kevin Sumlin will be a good hire for aggy. He will do better than expected and aggy will throw it in everyones face. Then Sumlin will use aggy as a stepping stone to a real powerhouse program.

Such as it is with aggy.

I don't know why you think ATM is a stepping stone.
    Sherrill to msu
    Rc to ???
    Fran to Texas state
    Sherman to ???

I'm not sure if Sumlin can make aggy competitive in the SEC but if he can... hello stepping stone. [IMG]

Hiring coaches is such a crapshoot. I have no idea how Sumlin will do at A&M. If he gives them consistent 8 win seasons then a ten win season followed by a seven win season, would they fire him?

I think the Aggie job is likely a stepping stone for someone very successful there. They have national contender expectations but not the program to be at that level consistently. If you could raise the Aggies to national contention, you'd be wise (it seems to me) to leverage that and move to a program that could actually support such lofty expectations year in and year out.

Sherman would have remained in College Station as would have Fran because of their age and point in career. Not so sure a younger will.

But again, what do I know?

Sad to see anyone get duped into that POS ag jr. school. Just hope that he starts stealing office supplies now.

Don't forget to sign the contract before you start work. The Aggies don't have a very good track record with handshake deals!

Now we can count down till the Aggies give him a lofty extension and fire him 3 months later via twitter---should happen in the next 3-4 years.

It has been good comic relief reading texgags this week. 48 hrs ago abt one out of ten supported the guy, with a lot of nasty comments posted abt what a bad hire it would be (of course, they said Saban, Stoops, Petersen, etc could be had for the right amt of dollars since the aggy gig was so prestigous).

Now most of the same posters are so positive abt Sumlin and "Welcome to the Aggie family, Coach!"

    Maroon buffoons.....

Given that the expectations for Sumlin and aggy is about 4 to 6 wins a year, I suspect he will outperform and want to get away from the nonsense in aggyville after 4 or 5 years.

    As far as past coaches,
Sherrill left aggy in a deal with the NCAA to avoid the death penalty. No big program would touch him at that point with his reputation.

Slocum could have gotten another job if he wanted to, but not at a big program after being fired. However, he was offered the LSU job when he had aggy winning. LSU offered to make him the highest paid coach in college football at the time, but he was aggy through and through and liked living at his ranch outside College Station and other stuff that does not need to be discussed. He is still running the show behind the scenes now and Sumlin is his guy.

Fran blew up, but had every intention of using aggy to get his true dream job of Notre Dame or the Dallas Cowboys. He said that a year after he was fired at aggy. He had every intention of using aggy as a stepping stone. He was a needy man in great need of affirmation. Being wanted by someone new meant more to him than staying in place. His heart would not have been satisfied at ND or Dallas anyway.

Sherman would have stayed at aggy, but in the end he is happy to be out of that nut house and headed back to the NFL. Kubiak was not really happy with Sherman with the Texans and was able to pawn him off on his alma mater. Interesting how the Texans have improved and aggy has been stagnant.

Aggys cultish ways are wearing on anyone that is expected to deliver big time results. I doubt anyone can truly last at aggy more than 10 years without going nuts, unless you are aggy through and through like Slocum.

Gillespie used aggy as a stepping stone for Kentucky.
They need true cultural change, but they just can't do it because they worship their traditions to much.

For over a week the overwhelming majority of Texags posters railed against "Shermlin" and many talked about dropping donations and season tickets. Today he's Vince Lombardi.

It's funny...only one head coach in recent memory has called agricultural his dream job. Fedora's the new head coach. At UNC. Fedora's team just bent Sumlin's over in the C-USA championship game, so.... aggy takes a pass on Fedora and brings Sumlin aboard. I figure the over/under on Sumlin's career at agricultural is four years before he joins the ranks of former aggy coaches or gets a real job.

[IMG] These jackasses are so full of themselves - there's even a thread started by a guy as an "open letter" to Sumlin, reminding him that most of the aggy "family" are standing behind him and to excuse the "brethren" who call him out and knock him. This is a perfect illustration of being a typical f-ing aggy: referring to other grads as brothers and such nonsense. If TexFags has been good for anything these last few weeks, it's to remind the rest of us unwashed heathens that these dipshits aren't any better than the rest of us: in fact they're worse, and they're dumb asses to boot when it comes to personnel issues.

Kevin Sumlin....the next Ex aggy head coach.
    4 years tops.

Year one: Wait till Sumlin gets to impliment his scheme with our top recruits! LSU and Bama better get their licks in early.

Year two: Disappointing season, but Sumlin is working from an empty cupboard thanks to that worthless Sherman!

Year three: 5-7 or 6-6 was not what we wanted but improvement is clear now, we are ready for next years run at the championship and with Sumlins $1 mil raise we can't loose!

Year four: Sumlin is a dolt, we should see what Fran is up to.

I estimate the Texags MNC prediction threads should be in full swing by this Monday.

Sumlin is exactly the kind of hire you would expect from Aggy.

    1) Offensive minded on a team that desperately needs defense.

    2) Successfull with a top 10 quarterback that was recruited by someone else (and moving to a program with 0 proven quarterbacks on board).

    3) No Head coaching experience in a "big boy" conference.

    4) A spectacular failure in what was unquestionably the biggest game of his life.

You can't get more Aggy than that.

I thought with Aggie's departure that us horn fans wouldn't care what happens at that university any longer. I honestly don't care about A&M an longer and can't imagine why any one would still scout their message bords for any reason. This may be the true divorce... constant hatred even after being separated for any period of time.

Good luck in trying to be Texas Ags... hope to never deal with you again.
