    Update 12/19...

With the NCAA's "Dead Period" kicking in to place as of 12:01am this morning, 12/19/11, all schools are prohibited from making contact to any recruits. Even though Thomas Johnson's verbal commit looked shaky for the last 2 weeks or so, this is where Connor Brewer, Johnathan Gray, Cayleb Jones and the others who will attending the UA Allstar game will take over where Darrell Wyatt & Bruce Chambers left off this past week with an in-house visit. The Dead Period continues for 3 weeks +, into the middle of January. TJ is expected to be in Austin for his official visit the weekend of January... the good news in all of this is that from last reports, TJ is still committed to Texas... which is great news! [IMG]

Not really sure why this thread has been locked up, but recruiting goes on regardless... [IMG]

I've been hearing this lately. Would suck to lose him for sure.

I know he's a talented kid and would suck if we can't land him. But, if he has even an iota of doubt about coming to Texas, he should look around. We need all of our recruits all in or nothing regardless of talent level. Darius White was a 5 star talent by many recruiting sites but he did us no good. Some accounts have him not all in for Texas. Speaking of which, I hope DW didn't take the I-35 split into Dallas to stop by Skyline and badmouth Texas to Thomas Johnson before heading to Fort Worth.

He also maybe looking around in case we land DGB. If that happens, it may be a numbers game to him. Plus, if he finds a better fit for him, he should not hesitate and go. Besides, if he's scared of competition with the scarcity of receivers we have already, he has no business being here.

I saw Bobby Kennedy at the Aledo - Corsicana game. There were some big cigars at the end of our row that he stopped to talk to. He told them he was mainly in town for the Skyline-Southlake game the next day. Hmmm.

Why go to CU? Does any high schooler actually remember when CU was any good?

Or, they could just watch our receivers from 2010 to see how good a WR coach Kennedy is.

Are there any more guys named Shipley out there? We seem to have pretty good results with those.

Hope we keep him. He could have an impact right away.

I want a kid that wants to be here, be part of the team, compete in every practice to start, and do what it takes to produce.

A kid that is afraid of competition, wants to be top dog without the work, wavers is going to be a problem down the road. Those kids can go elsewhere and dream about championships and watch our guys play for and win them.

Ditto what BevoJoe said. If TJ wants to be a Longhorn, we'd love to have him. But trying to convince or hard-sell a recruit who has major doubts (whether valid or not) on Texas will only work against the team if his heart isn't really in it. Let him follow his heart, good luck to him either way and hopefully he won't feel the need to 'play games' with the coaching staff.

At the last presser Mack says he wants balance and I believe it because it only makes sense. If you are a receiver you want that as well because dbacks that truly have to worry about pass and run are easier to get separation from.

The quarterbacks are an issue, Mack says they are young and the jury is still out on both of them.
