NFL is all abuzz about the playoff possibilities, lots of teams, cities, and fans with an interest and a stake in whats coming.

CFB the season is already over. Not even the so called championship game even means a goddamned thing.

I heard the Eagles with a losing record still has a chance to be called Super Bowl Champs, is that correct?

Feather in your cap to call an 8 loss team a champion, that has me jazzed!!!!

It will take more than a beauty contest, computer shuffling, coach and sports pundits voting, and a toss of dice to get there unlike college football.

im one of the few that actually prefers the NFL to college football but it is based upon the talent and strategic differences. The Colts would probably beat LSU or Alabama by 40 points 10 times out of 10. That is the difference between college and NFL.

I would prefer the Champion of the sport that I like the most to be undefeated or at worst case only have one loss on the season. I can say that I know of only 1 time in my 40+ years where the champion had more than 1 loss. I am more than satisfied with college football as a whole.

I believe college football would lose it's uniqueness with any type of playoff over 4 teams, can you imagine a 7-5 UConn team getting hot last year and knocking off a 13-0 Auburn? Not something I would be proud of calling a champion, UConn.

It creates a mini-NFL War of Attrition, not for me. Give me someone that has been on the top of their game from September thru January.

I like the idea of +1 or a 4 team tournament at the end of the season incorporating the bowls.

Just my opnion, but I don't care for the NFL, where a 9-7 Arizona Cardinal team was almost the Super Bowl champion, it weakens the product for me.

If you like the NFL, well good for you. If I wanted that type of system I would watch the NFL, I have in the past, and just don't like the product in comparison to College Football.

Seeing as how you are not only not a good Longhorn fan you are not a fan of college football either. It's no big deal if you are jazzed up about the NFL more than college football. It's better off without you for sure.

I don't think the bowl system we have is great or even good. It wasn't before either. It needs improvement and likely won't ever be the everything to everybody. But I love the game very much and will watch many bowls as usual. Since I have a dinner to Vince Young's Steakhouse on the line you can bet I am watching the MNC game with hopes that LSU drubs Bama.

I will also watch the NFL playoffs and Superbowl. A win for me no matter what is on tv.

general, of course they would. They are supposed to. The best college team would never beat the worst NFL team. It would not likely be close and the college guys would get hurt. It's a bigger gap than a great HS team to a bad college team but the college team would win the vast percentage of time.

It's as simple as realizing that a team is full of players as good as or better than the best player that team has seen all year. More muscle and experience.

The Colts would crush any team in the top ten of College.

Yes, the college football season is already over. So is the MLB season.

But it was exciting as hell this fall, unlike the NFL. Last night was the first meaningful Monday night game of the year. The only meaningful games of the regular season will be played over the next two weeks, and several teams with losing records still have a chance to win the Super Bowl.

From 1934 to 1974 the NFL champions played the College All Stars just as training cammp opened. The all stars won nine times and there were several other close games. I watched the game for many years and none of the college guys died. Remember this was the NFL champion they were playing. The all stars were of course the best players from the previous season but had only a few days to practice.

I would not bet the farm that the worst pro team would beat the best college team hands down.

I would. They were not playing the All Star NFL team. That team, if assembled (and with practice time) would beat the Super Bowl team.

Also, I bet many stars did not play in that game in the past. Many of the best ones did not.

Neither Alabama nor LSU would come out of that game v. the Colts very well at all. Remember, you will have sme 18/19 year olds playing guys in their 20's in tip top shape. They are animals even if they are horrible in the NFL. They would, in my opinion, do painful damage to the college guys.

The 1963 team of all stars were the last team to win the game. Here are some of the starting players: Ends Vern Burke, Oregon St.
    Lawrence Elkins, Baylor
    Tackles Scott Appleton, Texas
    Carl Eller, Minnesota
    Guards Bob Brown, Nebraska
    Rick Redman, Washington
    Center Dick Butkus, Illinois
    Backs Jim Grisham, Oklahoma
    Sherman Lewis, Michigan St.
    Paul Martha, Pittsburgh
    Gale Sayers, Kansas
    Roger Staubach, Navy

So yes the best players participated in the game. The team they beat was the Green Bay Packers wtih Bart Star.

I pick and choose who I am an ******* to and you are one of the chosen. Feel lucky.

I agree we need a playoff and I don't know many that disagree. I am sure they exist. I don't stop watching when bowl season comes along.

i dont think it's any question that the worst NFL team would beat the best college team.

half glass full, the best college team will have 50-75% of their players headed to the NFL at some point in their careers. the rest will likely go on and do whatever they would have otherwise done in life.

the difference is (and it's an obvious one) that 100% of the rams are NFL ready/high caliber players. they dont suck just because they lack talent, they likely suck because of scheme coaching, etc.

100% NFL caliber players >50-75% NFL caliber players.

Yes, Jose, yes. Also consider that within those numbers, which are generous and a best case scenario, they would not be at full potential for the NFL yet. We are talking about a guy who would need to develop another couple of years to be NFL worthy at draft time, making them a rookie with more to learn, grow and develop.

I wonder what teams have ever had that high a number enter and play in the NFL with any success good enough to beat another NFL team.

Years ago I could name pretty much every player on the Cowboys and a lot of the names on their rival teams. Now I don't think I can name 4 players on the Cowboys or even their current record. The thuggery, the mercenaries, the outlandish $, strikes, and Jones, have me watching almost no NFL. I just can't get interested. I'll take college FB anyday.

    I'll watch exactly 3 bowls:
    Holiday, b/c of the Horns.
    Cotton, b/c I'm semi-interested
Rose, b/c it's the Rose Bowl

That'll be it, especially b/c there are zero on NYD b/c it's on a Sunday.

I can find better things to do w/ my time other than watching ****** bowl games in front of half-filled stadia.

The over pussification of the NFL and the arbitrary enforcement of the rules has been somewhat frustrating, but I still enjoy it. I love college football too. It's all good.

I am glad I like many sports from around the globe. I very much like Australian Rules Football, Soccer and two types of racing (F1 and Rally). They fill in the gaps nicely and give me something to watch pretty much year round. I prefer college to NFL but still watch NFL. I think Fantasy Football has a big part in that.

Over the years I have let my enjoyment and time spent watching Major League Baseball and NBA to pretty much next to nothing. They don't appeal to me in the least but I understand why some still adore them. It's all a personal opinion thing.

My point being, that if the participants' respective fan bases won't even show up to watch a piece of **** game, i'm not going to waste my time either.

You're free to watch and enjoy all the bowl games you choose, I'll choose not to support a system I think is completely corrupt and broken. Fair enough, or do you have another oh-so-clever response?

i read somewhere that nevada has sold 10 tickets to their bowl.

    10.

granted their bowl is in hawaii, but still. 10 tickets.

That is nutso! You would think that a bowl that far away would have some form of discount or incentive for fans of any team to go. Especially a team of the caliber that bowl caters to. I have to assume that Nevada has pretty bad attendance to begin with.

I got curious enough that I looked it up. The most they had was against their rival, UNLV. 25,978. The other games were about 16,000 or a tad below. Their lowest attended home game was the last game of the season with a whopping 10,027.

I would still think that more than 10 would travel to watch the bowl game. At least ten more.

It appears that if Hawai'i does not play in the game it does not get to the 40,000 attendance mark. Without them, they average 25k. The Wolfpack is 7-5, their opponent has two losses. They are going to get drubbed. There is indeed something screwed about this system. I wonder if we will indeed have a playoff in our lifetime.
