We could play in another hundred MNC games and I don't think any could ever compare to that one. Truly the sports highlight of my life! [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

I stalked every place I could for a ticket- kissed *** of USC people I knew- and no dice. Finally on the day of the game my friend and I show up, $600 each thinking it was enough. We would have been short by about $1,600 each. The scalpers just had no supply, and the 10 or so tickets they did have sold for about $2,200 each.

We were at the Rose Bowl at around 10:30 AM to start looking for tix. At about 4:30 we were giving up- about to go back to Pasadena for a sports bar when I saw one last, slimy looking guy who looked like he was up to something. I asked him what he had- he says "I don't got no tickets but I can get you inside- $400/person." I said, ok, deal! So- he slaps some Citi wrist bands on us, walks us inside and takes our cash, instructs us to sit in the stairwell somewhere and stay low. I thought- oh god, this will never last.

When we got to the top of the stairwell in the stadium we were accompanied by about 50 other people in that section alone. Long story short- we later read that several thousand people somehow entered the stadium the same way we did- with "extra" Citigroup wrist bands or from other crooked employees at the Rose Bowl.

Some of the seat owners complained about us clogging the isles- and so we moved to another section one over. But I have to say- the folks who paid for seats knew what we were up to and were cool about it. It wasn't just us- I mean it really was about 50 people in every single section just hanging out in the isle, trying to blend in towards the top of the stadium.

Whatever- we got to sit occasionally, we saw the best game I'll ever see my entire life- and we sang the Eyes at the end. I have a few pictures and the plastic cups I keep from every big game I attend.

Thank you Vince and Co for the memory! [IMG]

  6. My own personal "Groundhog Day" that I could relive over and over. We must've been just a few rows from the guy who shot this video of the 4th and 5 play: Someone else's video

Six years later, I still get goosebumps! [IMG]

Was there with my son, 33. Great, great experience that began with wonderful afternoon of tailgating in a marvelous setting. Remember USC fans with tents and roses on tables. One woman on cell phone, "There sure are a lot of people in orange here."

My son never lost heart, though I was pretty down when we were -12. At the end I was shaking too badly to take good photo of scoreboard had to ask random Texas fan to help.

mcbrett... that story has to rival -- relatively speaking across the decades
    - a kid sneaking into the 1928 World Series when the Yankees
swept the Cardinals and the Babe hit .625 for the series.

Best day of my life...re-united with the love of my life and got to go to the game with her. We had a great lunch at an Italian place and walked to the stadium...she is beautiful and got interviewed by the local TV station the moment we stepped on the Rose Bowl grounds....She said she thought our defense would stop their offense one more time than they'd stop us and that we'd win by a field goal....

The TEXAS crowd was as if I'd hand-selected everyone that got a ticket....yelling their brains out on every play...it was awesome.

We all wept like babies when Vince ran into the end-zone...meant so much...still does...

BEST day of my life.... [IMG]

I was fortunate enough to get tickets to that game. Greatest game ever.

After the game was over everyone (Texas fans) was hugging each other, laughing, yelling, screaming and I even saw some people (men included) crying tears of happiness.

Sang the Eyes of Texas right after the game, then about 1 hr later after the celebration ended. I think we would have stayed all night but they finally had to kick us out.

2 other things I remember, the USC fans being so cocky before the game and they quit selling beer in the 3rd quarter. What's up with that?

    Agreed tejas-

As I noted above I didn't ever have 'tickets' but because I had a Longhorn shirt on I had about 4 different USC fans laughingly tell me to sell my tickets to save grace and not make the day a total disaster while I walked endlessly around the stadium.

One girl had a shirt that said "Another year, another hick football team to beat" - oh man, comparing us hick-wise to Oklahoma.. I managed to keep my mouth shut somehow when she passed.

I think they all had been watching ESPN for the entire month of December where they learned their team was the greatest ever to walk a college football field. In a sense- their arrogance made the victory of so much sweeter than had they been humble, friendly Nebraska like fans.

    WorsterMan SEC here we come!!

Dec. 2004- my UT grad brother and I got free tickets and trip paid for to RB vs. Mich. That was incredible UT football history....

THEN, Dec. 2005, lightning struck again and we had a chance to get free tickets and the trip paid for for '06 RB but bro couldn't get off work - had used all of his vacation + all of his sick days. I told him prior to the game UT would win a NC, we would miss it AND he would forever regret not calling in sick or something for an extra day or two... he frequently tells me he deeply regrets not getting sick Jan. 5-6 and us not going to THAT GAME.

But I saw it at a Tex Ex watching party and will remember celebrating and hugging and high five'ing many strangers, going home to watch ESPN over an over again with highlights until 2-3 AM... I still watch my DVD of the game every 4-6 months.
