Just to see where some Texas HS kids are winding up. Some of these may have been reported here already, sorry if any have already noted... OL Freddie Johnson of Temple has committed to SMU. LB Deon Hollins Jr. of Fort Bend Marshall has committed to UCLA. DE Matt Dimon of Katy and RB Keith Ford of Cypress Ranch have committed to ou. WR LeAndrew Gordon of Arlington Pantego Christian Academy and RB Dre'Vian Young of Aldine Nimitz have committed to KSU. WR Austin Bennett of Manvel has joined RB Jamel James of Katy Cinco Ranch by committing to Arkansas. WR Dannon Cavil of San Antonio Madison has committed to Mississippi. OL Caleb Benenoch of Katy Seven Lakes has committed to Michigan State. WR Fred Ross of Tyler John Tyler has committed to Okie State. C Austin Davis of Mansfield has committed to Duke. QB Zed Woerner of Marble Falls has committed to Tarleton State.
jefferson is an interesting case. he wanted to remain committed to A&M but still take visits. sumlin gave him an ultimatum, and both sides mutually decided to part ways. i dont think jefferson has an A&M offer anymore. totally different approach for A&M recruiting.
i agree. shermans approach would have been to back off, let jefferson take visits, then get blindsided by a decommittment late into the fall when other prospects had already committed elsewhere. i like the approach. but i also recognize that given our record over the past few years that we might not be in a spot to give ultimatums. but maybe sumlin has more confidence in our program right now than i do.
i think he'll get 4 years at minimum like sherman did. the wild card in there is whether or not byrne is the AD throughout sumlin's tenure.
Good stuff jmatt!! Muchas Gracias... Joe... quick question; How many offers for the HC position were given out (if any) by the ATM prior to the official offer & acceptance by Sumlin & will that come into play on whether he see 4yrs. if he doesn't have success?
Know anything about the Arkie, MichiganStste, or Okie State commits? We're these players we were not interested in, were not interested in us, or players we whiffed on? I don't recall their names coming up during the process. Too lazy to look them up.
Here are 2011 Stats for those guys, except the OL -- I hope the stat lines line up.... - RB Jamel James (Arky recruit) is probably on the bottom end of the top 25 players in Texas (not a knock, he is VERY good). Don't know where he ranks among just RBs. Offers from FSU, LSU, Tech, USC 5'11", 215, 4.5 in the 40 ATT YDS AVG TD 182 1011 5.6 16 - OL Caleb Benenoch (MSU) is ranked below all the OL committed to Texas and aggy so far. Offers from UH, KSU, WVU and others 6'6", 321, 5.2 - WR Fred Ross (okie state) is very good. Texas didn't go after him, but Baylor, Missouri, Rice, and West Virginia (among others) offered. 6'1", 185, 4.5 Receiving - NO YDS AVG TD 99 1335 13.5 15 Rushing - ATT YDS AVG TD 33 460 13.9 6
i could classify losing 1-2 games the way that we did as bad luck. but losing 5/6 games in the same exact fashion indicates coaching deficiencies. sherman was a good guy and a solid offensive mind, but not that good of a head coach. we'll see if sumlin is better.
WR Corey Robinson of San Antonio Christian has committed to Notre Dame. WR Vequan (Quan) Jones of Wylie East has committed to Baylor. CB Trey Washington of Gilmer has committed to SMU.
Thank you jmatt for all your updates on the other recruits. Sure helps to have this stuff in one spot, much appreciated.
Houston picked up a commit from Bellaire RB Denzell Evans. Dre'Vian Young decommitted from KSU, but still retains an offer from them (FYI, I may have made an error her and misread an offer as a commit). TCU picked up a commit from OL Patrick Morris (6'3", 290) of Denton Guyer.
