    From Fox News:

"It’s been called the greatest handgun ever made, and it has barely changed sine 1911, when the legendary John Browning designed it especially for the U.S. Military. And now, the Colt .45 M1911 is making a big comeback, now that the U.S. Marines have placed a $22.5 million order for the Connecticut-made pistols."

The Colt .45 M1911 renders judgment with extreme prejudice. The Marines get the state of the art firearm. Colt wins the battle for a critical defense contract and keeps dollars stateside. I'm stoked all the way around. [IMG]

Very cool. Always been my favorite of sidearms.

I never really understood the switch by so many military & law enforcement to 9mm, purely from a safety aspect if nothing else. A 9mm leaves the barrel at something like 1,500 feet per second. In close quarters, it's going through a body, a wall, and what (or whom) ever is on the other side.

.45 leaves at something like 980 feet per second. It's far more likely to stay lodged in whatever you were aiming at. Certainly less of a risk of harm to the innocent.

Although designed to be carried cocked, it's design also renders it one of the safest of firearms, as well.

And ask any veteran of WWII, Korea, or Viet Nam about the .45's stopping power.
