This may be the wrong forum, but what is the best sports bar in Austin to watch games if my tickets fall through? It's been a couple of years since I've been to a true sports bat in Austin.
I haven't been to any of these in a long time, but here's a list of places that carry the LHN in Austin (courtesy of Grande Communications). Posse East 2900 Duval Austin, TX 78705 Tavern 922 W.12th Street Austin, TX 78703 The Ranch 710 A West 6th Street Austin, TX 78703 Trudy's 409 W 30th Street Austin, TX 78705 TailGatorz 2828 Rio Grande Austin, TX 78705 El Chile Café/ The Red House Pizzeria 1917 Manor Rd Austin, TX 78722 Abels on The Lake 3825 Lake Austin Blvd Suite 203 Austin, TX 78703 Boomerang’s 3110 Guadalupe Street #150 Austin, TX 78705 Double Dave's 3000 Duval Street Austin, TX 78705
Third coast giving some good feedback. I would stick to the first 2 suggestions with a little bit of the following input: Posse East if you want game day atmosphere with students and alums hanging together. Great fun but parking is a beatch! Only beer ( no booze). I'm a bit partial to the 2nd suggestion at the one and only Tavern. Great food, full bar, much easier parking and if you get there early enough, park your caboos at the bar upstairs where you can watch multiple games. This place is money!
Abel’s on the Lake, 3825 Lake Austin Blvd. Boomerang’s, 3110 Guadalupe St. Double Dave’s, 3000 Duval St. El Chile, 1917 Manor Road EZ’s, 3918 N. Lamar Blvd. Jalapeno Joes, 3211 Red River St. Jax, 2828 Rio Grande St. Nomad Bar, 1211 Corona Drive Pluckers, 105 N. For those of you a bit further North of Austin, I read that Grande has service setup at 3rd Base in Round Rock. It will be a mad house in there but that is the only place in Round Rock that I have seen that will air the game.
Any of those spots close to campus? Wanting to go tailgate and get scalped tickets if we can get something at a reasonable price, but also want to have a fallback plan if not.
It seems like the North/Northeast part of the county(NE Austin/Pflugerville/Round Rock) has the worst shortage of LHN-carrying sports bars. Third Base in Round Rock was a madhouse when I went to watch the Rice game there last year, and prob will be the same this year. Why doesn't LHN offer some kind of a PPV portal service so we could at least order games on cable systems that don't offer full LHN?
I also heard that the Cedar Park Center will show the first two games, for free...Thats just what I heard.
Now that U-Verse is carrying the LHN, anyone see a list of more places that will be carrying the game?

I was wondering how they were going to get away with that and what special arrangement they had made to circumvent what was likely in their contract. Turns out that they may have not read their contract. However, it's a heck of a lot easier now that bars with Uverse can show the game as well. Surely people know a neighbor, family member or friend with Grande, Fios or Uverse. I hope that people planning on going to the above event quickly find a place to watch the game with zero stress. Hook 'em. Now it's Taps' turn to chastise.
Uverse is apparently a consumer-only service and not available to commercial customers like sports bars. Oh well...
