Dang it. Harrison got hit hard early and put the Rangers in a 6-0 hole after the Rays' first 2 at bats. The Rangers have made it a game, but they're are going to have a big rally to reduce the magic number any further 'cause the A's are about to beat the Tribe again and close the gap to 4.5 games.

Ok. Why is Ogando in the game after pitching on two consecutive nights and the Rangers down by 3 in the 9th? Makes absolutely no sense. (Edit: And as soon as I finished typing this, Ogando gives up a solo shot to Longoria. 8-4 Rays going to the bottom of the 9th. Rangers are toast, but will end a good home stand at 7-3).

Was always going to be hard to sweep the Rays. Rangers win series and go 7-3 on hometsand which is what everyone said they needed to do. But did anyone expect Oakland to just keep on wining like they are?

10 game road trip starts Friday and really need to go 6-4 on it.

Startung to think the magic win number is 94 and if the Rangers go 6-4 on this trip they just need to play .500 ball the rest of the way to get to that 94 win mark.

The only good news is that Oakland as softened up the Indians. We need to sweep Clevesburgh.

R's will catch the tribe at a good time... they have lost 4 in a row and are 1-9 their last 10. Good guys need to keep kicking a man when he is down [IMG]

Yep, to my earlier comment about making hay while the sun is shining, we really can't afford anything less than 2 of 3 in Cleveland and 3 of 4 in KC.

we haven't fared well against either cle or kc this year. i would be satisfied with 4-3 against those 2, but that means need to take 2 of 3 @ tampa. looking at records though, there's no reason we shouldn't go 5-2 against cle/kc. we always seem to lose against ublado... i'd really like to win that one.

Too many times this season the Rangers play down to the level of their competition. This would be a good time to take care of business. IMO the Rangers need a 7-3 road trip to at least maintain whatever cushion they have over the A's.

Rangers make it a little too interesting in the ninth but hold on to win 5-3 to start road trip off on right foot. Would be nice to see oakland cool off right about now! [IMG]

So great that football season has started. Meanwhile, back at the ballpark, Feldman puts the Rangers in a 4-0 first inning hole with his usual bad inning. The Rangers fought back to get within a run but lose 4-3.

The Rangers should be killing this Indians pitching staff but aren't--today's starter had an ERA over 5.00. Once again, they are playing down to the level of their competition. Texas needs to step it up because the A's are right on their heels and are not going away. In fact, the A's are about to close the gap to 3 games as they are rolling over the BoSox.

Feldman goes 0-6 then 6-0 and now 0-5. Tough to watch today. [IMG]

2 out of 3 in Cleveland is what they needed but no help at all from the Red Sox as they look like they are playing dead in oakland which means the A's will win their ninth straight and stay within three games. Need to take 3 of 4 in Kansas City and hope somehow oakland starts to cool off. They are about to tie the Yankees for second best record in the AL.

Holland gave up his obligatory HR, but the wheels never came off. Could've used a sweep given what the A's are doing but I'll take 2 out of 3 any day.

Although a sweep would be preferable, Rangers need to take 3 of 4 from Royals. If Royals take the series and Angels don't cool off the A's, I think the A's will catch Texas. Rangers really need to step on the gas.

^The nice thing for the Rangers is that the Angels will be highly motivated in their series against the A's - the Angels will be fighting for their playoff lives in this series. If the Rangers take care of business in Kansas City (at least three wins) and the Angels win the series against the A's, the Rangers will be in decent shape for the stretch run.

Rangers take game one in KC and angels have early 4-0 lead over the A's so Labor Day has been kind so far.

Yes it is weird to be cheering for the Angels but we need them to do some damage in Oakland. [IMG]

It is September with the Rangers in first place. Therefore the Rangers only have to focus on wining series. If they don't have the best record, so be it.

good point, especially when they get to the last 7 games against Oakland. It will come down to that. You simply have to win 4 of 7 against Oakland. But, in the meantime, the Angels are ahead of the As 8-2 in the 7th. Last 2.5 innnings should be fun.

Down go the A's!! whew! how long has it been since we've been able to say that?

Like the man says "just keep on winning series". But, in the meantime, it's nice to note that the A's are human.

    25. I absolutely loved the way MY followed-up Nellie's getting nailed in the back by the Royals' pitcher by taking him deep on the first pitch he saw. Best way to respond to the intentional HBP. Hopefully, Harrison rebounds from his last start by tossing a gem. Rangers need to steamroll KC. [IMG]

So much for sweeping the sad-sack Royals. Rangers lose 6-3. Harrison, the Rangers most consistent pitcher, was given a 2-0 lead, but laid an egg for the second consecutive outing; Oswalt gave up a HR to the #9 hitter (who is hitting .230 and hasn't gone deep all year); and the bats couldn't do much against a KC starter who was 6-12 with an ERA over 5.30. Base running errors didn't help either.

I really expected the Rangers to win this one. Need to win the next two. Looks like we also need the Angels to beat the A's again tonight--it sure kills me to say that.

Where were the bats tonight? Sure need for the Angels to help out by beating the A's again. And Dempster needs to get 'er done tomorrow.

Our last 18 games are vs the west -6 games vs each....that's nut cutting time, not right now....Wash, PLEASE keep the bullpen fresh and don't Robbie Ross anybody else & we'll be in good shape. Spread the work, don't run in Nathan with 4 run leads.
