If they continue on the same pace they will end the season with 109 losses this season. If it gets much worse they could end up with the 5th most losses in baseball history. What a terrible season!
The Link The Astros named Tony DeFrancesco their interim manager on Sunday morning, replacing the fired Brad Mills with the franchise’s manager from Class AAA Oklahoma City.
This is the second straight year where a legitimate question in August is whether the Astros will get to 50 wins. Sad to see as I always rooted for them if they werent playing the Rangers and always enjoyed a getaway weeked or two down there to catch some national league action when I lived in Fort Worth.
Yeah, because it was Mills' fault. They've traded away nearly all their veterans and talented youngsters. They're basically fielding a AAA roster. Mills was a carry-over from the McLane/Wade regime. As such, I can certainly understand if Crane and Luhnow want to start fresh with their own guy. However, don't pretend that the utter failures of 2011 and 2012 are owing to Mills and his staff.
Astros doing everything they can to be one of the worst teams in MLB history. They are now on pace to end up with 113 losses however if they continue on the most recent pace they could wind up with near 120 which would be tied for second most losses of all time. If you are going for a record setting sucky season go for it with gusto and end up with 121 and own second beating out the '03 Tigers and '62 Mets. The only team worse than them would be the 1899 Cleveland Spiders who posted a lofty 20-134 record.
As bad as this Astros team is, the future is just as bleak. The 2006-2011 Astros are a cautionary example of how not to run a baseball team. The names "McLane" and "Wade" ought to be cuss-words in Houston.
Well, just when I thought they might end with 120 losses, they seem to have turned it around. Now they are only on pace for 111 losses with a staggering -212 run differential.
