Does anyone know if this guy's legit? His twitter feed is busy the past few days with ESPN encouraging Big12 to expand by pulling some teams from the Big East. Also talk of SEC scheduling alliance. Not sure how much to believe but it's on the Internet so it must be true . . . Hook'em
I have it on good authority that the Big XII will be adding four teams comprised of Abominable Snowmen, Chupacabras, Bigfeet, and Area 51 Aliens.
That guy was outed on the wvu board for having multiple accounts. He was replying to his own threads trying to make it look like his inside info was legit. Chances are he is full of ****. Entertaining, but full of it.
Darius. Is that a recent picture of The Pod, and if so did the reporter with the microphone ask him about expansion?
The sooner the Big 12 dies the better. Texas will be free of the dead weight of the likes of back-stabbing, ungrateful Techtards, and Baylor, and move to a real conference like the Big 10 pr the Pac. Texas committed to the Big 12 without asking anything in return, that was a huge mistake, and the 13 year GoR will come back to bite Texas big time!
I agree Toronto. But there has to be an "out" of some sort of the GOR. I cant believe we would paint ourselves in to a corner like that, especially given the volatile state of conference reallignment.
I'm NOT a fan of the Big XII as it is currently constructed. It is competitive with several teams that can hold their own. I think it's safe to say UT, OU, WVU, and Okie State can be expected to be pretty good most years...the rest? That being said, the Big XII isn't going away, nor is UT leaving it. I wanted the UT to the PAC deal to happen...still do...but it's not going to. I'd buy into UT to the B1G...I'd have no real problem with UT to the SEC, other than having to play aggy again. None of those are gonna happen in my lifetime. UT has too much to gain staying with the Big XII, and knows it. The only viable option left is to bring in a couple of teams that add value to the league. FSU is NOT off the table...the ACC likely can't enforce that fifty million dollar payout and would have to negotiate, just like the Big XII and the Big (L)east did. What I'm sayin' is this...you might as well get used to the Horns being in the Big XII, because it ain't changing anytime soon.
Darius' picture is actually an interview with aggie's next coach. They have been working on geneticly enhanced corn, and discovered a strain that wouldn't choke in the 2nd half.
Latest is that ESPN is encouraging Big12 expansion by adding 4 most valuable teams from Big East: Louisville, Rutgers, UConn, and South Florida. I see the rationale but I don't like it one bit. Well, I do like the idea of playing UL and UConn in basketball but that's it. The WV Dude is also monitoring the situation on his twitter site. No charge for this "news." Hook'em
If ESPN wants to increase their TV rights by $80 million fine; otherwise move on down to the SEC they seem to take the dregs.
"....Louisville, Rutgers, UConn, and South Florida." And how horrible would THAT be? The only adds I'd like to see - and I don't think it will happen - would be Free Shoes U and Clemson; they're both on the rise, and their locations would be good for WVU, who are a lonely outpost. No Big Least and leave the rest of ACC football for the Irish.
Bigfoot is overated. He's a big slow plodder. He belongs in the Big 10 +2 with the rest of his kin. I'll take those aliens with their "Blackhole Defense" and "West Galaxy Offense."
I disagree, i like the current 10 team conference. UT, OU, WVU, OSU, KSU can be counted on to be ranked every year. TCU or TTU can be counted on to be ranked in years one of those 5 have an off year. I agree ISU, BU are 1 coach away from being KU awful. Adding 2 of UL, RU, or UConn might make sense for basketball but the cost is fewer matchups between those 5 which is key for strength of the conference. Its like adding aggy and MU to the SEC, it dilutes strength.
Personally, I prefer 10 team leagues where everyone plays each other and there are no CCGs. Easier scheduling (especially in basketball) and easier to determine league champion, etc. Apparently, that's not sustainable long-tem, though, according to experts (not named Dodds). If we did expand, my picks would be FSU, Clemson, Louisville, and one of Maryland or Georgia Tech in that order. I like basketball and baseball as well as football and those 4/5 teams bring a lot of tradition, imo. The Area 51 aliens relocated from Vogon or wherever to NM and there are not many TVs there. Not a good fit, imo. Hook'em
Are the ACC teams already obligated on the huge payout obligation if they leave, or is that going to start at some point in the future? Was it $50 million? If that is the cost of leaving, and FSU, Clemson, GT all signed off, then I doubt they are anticipating a move.
Supposedly, FSU did NOT sign off on the fifty million payment, supposedly everybody else did, and supposedly, it went into effect immediately. I'm no lawyer (though I have stayed at Holiday Inn...) but some who are, and good at their trade, say anything is negotiable, and that there are several points to the fifty million dollar payout that could NOT stand up to a court challenge. Take it for what it's worth, but I'm given to understand, from more than one source, that FSU officials are still looking into the ramifications of a jump to the Big XII, and that they will run into no opposition from anyone, DeLoss Dodds included, if they decide on a move. If one's gonna happen, two will happen, with the most likely number twelve team being Louisville, now that Clemson's apparently satisfied with the ACC adding the domers. Realignment talks, if they are gonna happen involving the Big XII, likely won't kick in before early spring of next year.
FSU and Louisville would be nice additions. Louisville more for basketball, but not bad for football. FSU would bring TV sets, competitive football, and more Fa. recruiting. So, when they call me, I'm going to be in favor.
The 'Ville is actually building a football program that their basketball team can be proud of. They're not in a huge market, and need to draw better with the fans, but they make a nice travel partner for WV, and as noted, bring a traditionally tough basketball presence. FSU is a no-brainer for a lot of reasons. Add those two to the Big XII and this conference doesn't back off from anybody, including the sainted SEC.
Also Louisville has become somewhat of a rivalry for WVU. I like FSU as well, but if they are not #12, who do you go after?
If Louisville is in the mix - stay at ten. They bring nothing except an overrated cheating basketball program.
