9-3. This assumes a win at Tech OR at Kansas State. I know it seems impossible, but stranger things have happened. Then assume we win a mid-level bowl game to go 10-3 for the season. That means the last 3 years are: 2010 5-7 2011 8-5 2012 10-3 Nothing will erase the OU debacle, but 10-3 isn't too bad considering the terrible defense. Just a strange thought (or pipe dream).
It is an interesting question. So what if the team does finish with no more than 3 losses? Do y'all get off Mack's *** or is it too late to turn back now, you're tainted and there is nothing Mack can do to keep his job?
Beating the middling teams (ttu, tcu, bu, ku) while other teams kick our asses and then play for the conference championship year after year is not acceptable. Someone mentioned pipe dream above. This team, with this defense, and DC, will never go 13-0. Never. Diaz will never beat ou. His D has allowed 118 points in his two opportunities against ou. That doesn't include the numbers against bu and wvu this year, and this year isn't over. We still have three tough games ahead: tech, tcu, ksu, and isu.
KSU will beat us by 3+ TDs - they have a D and our O wont be on the field long. Tech could be a shoot out but they are better and will beat us by at least 2 TDs. Both teams have less talent but both have better coaches.
I expect losses to Tech, TCU and KState. I think that is enough for the bigshots to make the change. If Mack Bargains and gets rid of D, then we only have one year left of the big M. Iowa State will be a close game similar to Baylor. 7-6? 8-5? 6-7, pick any of those.
If we win out or lose only one (and are competitive) then I'd say Mack deserves to hang on for another year. But I don't expect it... I just don't know what can turn it around after seeing the defense play twice in person and on tv (except the LHN games). If we get "horse-******" (to coin a phrase on another thread) by OU next year then he has to go.
if we go 9-3 I still want a change at HC. I've seen enough lifting of the skirt on the biggest game of the year time after time Gotta go, Mack. You've earned a respected place in history here, but the ceiling you currently provide is way too low.
Here's another thought, if we go 9-3, would that make it easier for Mack to feel he has "righted the ship" and retire?
REALBIGHORNFAN, you are being delusional just like our coaching staff is this year. TTech and K.State both have the best defenses in the BIg 12 if not in the country. I am praying we finish 7-5, going 9-3 is a pipe dream especially with our 600+ yard a game no tackling defense.
No matter how many we win this year, if Mack is our coach in the future, we will ALWAYS have the fear that Stoops will hang 60+ on us. Only way to change that is a new staff.
We will go 7-5 before bowl. We won't go 13-0 next year. I believe we need a change at the top, however, they may let him make one change and give him one more chance to beat ou, and he probably deserves that.
By the way, while watching the LSU-a&m game the the aggies are going to close in big time in recruiting, SOONER, than we want. b
For the record, I want a new head coach. However, in this "new world" of Big 12 football, it appears the question is not "Who can Texas stop?", but "Who can stop Texas?". I only see one team on the remaining schedule that can stop Texas. That is K-State. Mack knows he can out score every team in this conference sans OU and KSU. The problem is that our current defense requires the offense to play perfectly (no turnovers). If we play perfectly on offense, 9-3 or 10-3 is not out of the question.
Exactly Viper...Stoops has the pedal to the metal from the start, and that's from the locker room for warmups. Where as we seem to have the attitude of let's see if this is our year. Ou always comes out and does, we see if we can. I had a boss here in Denmark that always ran around saying... Små hunde tror, store hunde gøre!
No record outcome should change the fact that we need a new head coach. We aren't beating OU and we aren't winning enough conference titles. Period.
I think it's safe to say that the only game where UT SHOULD win is this weekend's Kansas game, and it should be noted that the Jayhawks are improving, and gave okie lite a tough game. It's not only possible, but probable that the Horns could finish with a losing record this year...not a surprise, give that Swiss cheese defense. My question is this...would that be enough to persuade Mack it's time to turn the team over to someone else...or persuade Powers above him if Mack gets stubborn again?
Have you seen our D lately? ...until further notice, I am only bullish on beating ku and isu... everyone else bearish. Right now, we are staring at at a possible 7-5 or best case 8-4 season record IMHO (I hope I am wrong). The Horns will not beat ksu.
