TX/OU - does our team live down to the fans

I'll be the first to say that I've not been to the game the last 2 years, but as recently at two years ago my observations have remained fairly constant.

    1. The one year I happened to be there when the team buses arrived, I watched in disbelief at the Texas fans carried on over the OU buses like a bunch of high-schoolers at a rivalry game. The OU players got off their buses - dressed in coats and ties, I might add; you know, business clothes, and they're in the business of playing and winning football games. The Texas players seemed almost to be diddly-bopping off their buses, earpod cords dangling, casually dressed, and seemingly detached from the reason they were at the Cotton Bowl.

    2. But have no fear. We made up for it all. We boo-ed their band when they enter the stadiums (WOW, that's a terrifying thing, huh?); we yelled "OU Sucks" at all the right times (not saying they don't, but it does get old); and if Bud is right, and it's not weird unless it doesn't work, well, then, for us it's WEIRD!!!

So, I can't help but suspect that our team's ***-whipping is possibly a reflection of the fan's mis-placed priorities. Maybe we should try going to out games with a 'we're in the business of winning games' attitude. Who knows - it just might run uphill to the team.

It's a heated rivalry and ou fans are no different than ours up there. Wouldn't be a bad idea for the players to travel dressed up more.

We yell OU sucks and they just lay another 60 points on us. When i left the game i was thinking our offence and defence sucked.

These *** whipping occur because of the misplaced
abilities of coaches and players not fans.

Fans don't miss tackles of play out of position and they
don't make the wrong play calls or defensive schemes.

Can fans contribute to and sometimes affect the game,
yes they can. But if fans start yelling OU is not our
standard as a state or school next year instead of OU
sucks will it make any difference on the field, no it won't.

When we were in the midst of winning streaks over OU
in the past did OU sucks make any difference then? No,
it did not, if any attitudes need some adjustments it's the
mentality of the players and coaches. Remember when
they were saying it was just another game on the schedule.
Again no it's not and never will be. Even in down years for
either or both teams this game is a matter of pride if not for
championships. This is what matters along with putting
the best team and coaches on the field possible to win
this game and all others. Not some chant from fans or
    booing opposing bands or teams.

The title of this thread is completely wrong! I've been to almost 40 straight Texas/ou games and until mack Brown came to Texas about 15 to 20% of Texas fans at the game wore burnt orange and the ou crowd wore almost all red. Not only that but the ou crowd was much louder than the Texas crowd. I hate to admit it but even though I knew the ou fans would be louder and more supportive it still always pissed me off.

Now, for several years in a row both fan bases have been decked out in their school colors. As for as which crowd has been louder in the last few years aat the beginning of the game it has been hands down the UT fanbase. Hands down without a doubt. We as a fanbase desperately want this game and it shows just before the game and for the first few minutes.

I have no idea what the OP is talking about when he says at the Texas/ou game our team may live down to the fans.

Who cares about who boos louder when the other team's band comes out?

If our team lived up to the total excitement and loudness of the Texas side of the field at the ou game we would have a several year winning streak.

First, LIA - the title of the thread is a question, not a statement - no right or wrong to it.

Second, Stat, I'm not saying it's a predictor for the game, but it does reflect attitude and approach to the game, both specifically and in general.
