As to KState/OSU. First it's in Manhattan. KSU has scored over 50 5 times this year. OU, North Texas, and Iowa St. are the only ones to play them within 2 TDs and it's because they kept the scoring down. So I suppose it's possible OSU or us play them close. But KState gets both at home. They have @TCU which may be their toughest game. IMHO, KState has the easiest path to an NC. They have 2 teams barely inside the top 25 and get both at home.

I just don't see how we stop their run or their pass, but especially their run. Maybe if Hicks is back, I'll feel differently. D has taken a huge step back since his injury.

I wonder how opinions might change if the team ends up 10-2 before a bowl game.

If this happens ill eat my shorts..

We have talented players, we just dont have angry players.

Angry men win football games. Perhaps some on this board would be so kind to pass some of your anger on to the players. Ha!

Mad cow I totally agree with you. We have overrated 4-5 star rival players who were great in HS and have yet produce on the football field. These guys are so pampered and have no nasty or mean side to them plus they are not being coached correctly. Texas just needs to clean house and start all over again we will sadly finish 6-6 or 7-5 if we get a few breaks in the next 4 games.

I'm betting we finish 8-4 with close wins over OSU, Baylor, Kansas, TCU, and ISU. First 8-4 isn't good enough when we are basically spotted 3 wins. Secondly winning close over Baylor, Kansas, and ISU (assuming we can win the latter and it's close) is not good enough either. Baylor and Kansas should be 3TD plus differentials.

Only good thing to come out of this year is OU won't win the CC again and I'm betting they play one more turd game and go 9-3. Seems we're the only team they really get ready to destroy.

I bet you took Tech and the points last week too.

How about that OSU defense and the firepower
they possess on the road at Manhattan?

I havent change my thoughts since that original post Saturday afternoon.

I actually think this team has good chance of finishing 8-4 and depending on the bowl matchup as well as 9-4. That doesnt change my original thoughts on this.

I think Mack has been amazing for Texas and we all owe him a ton of thanks for getting Texas back where it should be. Some posters have embarassed themselves and Texas fandom in general with their vitriol and childish comments about Mack. I disagree with their comments and think they do more damage to the program than they can know with that crap, but it is time for Mack to retire and pass the reigns to a new staff.

Me, too. I agree with FWHORN. The level of apathy I have personally experienced has been shocking (to me). They say that's what happens when the anger subsides . . .

when you get a raise every year regardless of performance and your friends keep giving you hugs and you ignore the rest then what is going to drive you? Mack is simply frustrated like the rest of us. i think he has lost the drive a bit but he isn't completely done.

Why was Mack repeatedly given raises and contract extensions? I understand the need to reward good performance, but isn't that already being done with his salary as one of the highest paid coaches in the country? With his base salary a raise should only be for far exceeding expectations, not meeting them (or getting close). Why extensions? It was clear 5-8 years ago that no one was going to come in and hire him away. He's not wanted. Let him get near the end of the contract then re-up as needed. He was never going to leave if he hadn't been given early extensions.

I can understand it for the assistant coaches. These guys have to be rewarded handsomely to keep them here but not Mack.

Yep I think 8-4 is realistic but proves nothing.

We're not "back" by any means, and next year is yet another rebuilding year...

Mack will point to the improvement on the record as a step forward, but us fans know if anything we took a step back this year.

Think about this: If this year's team had to play last year's OSU and Baylor squads we'd have four losses already, with a couple more on the way and we likely end up .500 or worse.
