What ever happened to top rated Offensive Lineman the past few years I know that Garret Greenlea out of Klien HS was all state and Bible out of Denton was all state he played Offensive and Defense in HS, I know I am missing a few other guys we recruited and signed? I know Hawkins is a jucco player who had several false starts last sat night but were is the depth and why are these guys not playing or challenging for playing time? The only Top OL I ever hear about is Maso Walters who is a senior this year and our soph center Esponosa

Bible was recruited to play DT but never got his head on before he showed up in Austin. He was one of Tolleson's guys (kind of like Moss was one of Muschamp's guys) and when he showed up after the first summer, Bo Davis didn't want any guys to be overweight. Adios.

I'm a little concerned how the depth is being handled at OL. We're sticking with a pretty solid two-deep, but outside of Poehlmann, they're hardly getting any playing time.

Greenlea is still biding his time, waiting as a member beyond the "three-deep" at OL. It's a little worrisome that Estelle jumped ahead of every single redshirted player on the roster. On top of that, Paden Kelley was supposed to be our first option after Hawkins, not the guys like Greenlea. That can't bode well for his future chances at playing time. Poehlmann is done after this year, so they'll get the first look at Cochran's backup position.

And then even beyond this year, we have Darius James and Kent Perkins coming in. I assume James would have to shirt if he has lingering effects from his injury, but these guys are sure-fire future starters on the OL. Someone (out of the redshirted guys... Greenlea, Hutchins) better learn how to play center if they want some more playing time.

I haven't rewatched the OkSt game but I don't recall seeing any of this week's depth chart "2nd team" OL (Ashcraft, Porter, Flowers, Estelle) other than Poehlmann in action. That sure does not give me much comfort regarding our backup linemen. Would love to see more of these backups getting some field time.

I thought the OL did very well at pass blocking but as for controlling the line on running plays, not so much. It appeared to me that the OSU DL locked our guys up without giving ground allowing the LBs to fill the lanes time after time. Hard to make much ground when you are running into a wall of lineman, offense and defense.

Also, it seemed to me that most of the running plays other then the jet sweeps were slow developing with handoffs deep in the backfield. There was plenty of time for the D to fill the lanes.

Also, also, I think the Horns missed out on using the QB sneak. Numerous times when Ash lined up there was no one in the G-C-G gaps including no LBs, at least from what could be seen on the TV screen.

I am not a football technique expert by any means. It just seemed there were some recurring actions that should have been changed during the game.

I agree with the above. There were lots of opportunities that failed to materialize. I had to search the box score to find this one:

Ut 2-1 at Osu44 Goodwin, Marqui rush for loss of 5 yards to the OSU49 (Lewis, Shaun).

We were up 28-26 on their side of the field. We ran an easily-spotted jet sweep from left to right, and it was literally stuffed before the snap even occured. If you watch the replay, OSU only had 2 guys on the left side of our line, and 4 on the right side if you include the LBs. All Ash had to do was check down to an easy handoff for Gray and run a 33 or 35 play to the left side. Easy first down. Drive alive. Possibly leading to a 35-26 lead with about 10 minutes remaining in the game.

Instead, our D had to quickly get back out on the field and immediately watch Walsh run for 50 yards on the first play.

Sometimes it's the little plays that make such a huge difference in time of possession. The OL needs to be at the forefront for those little plays. We need 4 yards, not 2. We need 3 seconds of protection, not 1.7. We'd be unstoppable with these fixes.

Horn11 thank you for the insight and suture of the OL. I really hope Kent Perkins Mr. All State first team is really the true stud I read about him up here in Dallas Morning News. We need to get some All State big talent and have them around for 2-3 years so we can get back to National Championship. [IMG]

Whatever happened to Chett Moss and what was his story?

Recruited to play LB by Muschamp. Now he's the 3rd option at FB. Pretty much says what you need to know about Diaz. I can't be entirely unfair... Moss could have been one of the 24+ scholarship guys that left the team in the last two years, but he wasn't. And I'm guessing Mack has a lot to do with that.

I thought Chet Moss was an All State LB at Cedar Park and if I remember correctly their only loss of the season was in district play to State Champions Lake Tarvis and it was even a close game. Chet Moss was huge in that game and a team captain plus he even committed early to the Horns that year. Wow what a difference in coaching styles between Boom and Diaz

Two LBS to fullback Moss and De Torre. There are three more offers out to OL men one JC and two HSers.

Chet Moss and Alex De La Torre were both all state linebackers and were moved to offense by our linebackers coach, Manny Diaz.

Both were ranked in the top 16 at their position in the country. So we must be flush at linebacker for Diaz to move these guys to fullback...NOT.

I suspect that Mack the Meddler made the switches.

I suspect Mack would still have them on the LB side of the ball, considering how much he's bitched about the situational personnel over the last few weeks.

    Walters is not a senior.

Poehlmann is the only senior on the OL.

Horns11 Mack is head coach so IMO he has final say on which of the ball players play. He is the one who announced Moss was moving to FB.

"He is the one who announced Moss was moving to FB."

Which was probably to get him a position in order to stay on the team, unlike the 30+ other guys who have left for "more playing time" over the last 4 years.

My assumption (which is only an assumption) was that he was recruited to play LB by Muschamp. His actual commit date was the day before Muschamp took the UF job. He probably figured that he'd still be in the LB mix once the new guy got here.

At the time of Moss's move to FB it was for depth purposes to practice . One of Macks weakness is recruiting out of position players and hoping to coach them in other positions. QB to Safty LB to FB etc.
