You know when certain websites open up and they have those ads that are personalized to your city. They might say something like "Find cheap cigarettes in Austin" or "Click here for puckered virgin ******** in Austin."

Well on my computer those ads say some city in Florida. I see a bunch of single ladies in Tampa and Bradenton.

What's going on? Is some internet gang using my computer to send emails from Nigerian princes?

    Nice mac.

Be nice to the interweb newbie

The "location" is gathered by your IP address, which is compared to a list of who owns it and where they are. Usually, the list is pretty accurate, but it's not foolproof.

It's all based on who you ISP is, where they are located and where they have alocated their group of IP addresses. Computers don't care where the address is, it's up to routers to figure out how to get to the destination network from the source network.

I can get really technical, but won't. Basically, the list that the website is using to correlate your ip address to a physical location is wrong. Why it is wrong doesn't really matter.

For now, enjoy the fake pictures of girls in Florida.

And, forward any virgin puckered ******** to Mac. I'm just glad my ip address is not associated with Alaska. Can you imagine the pictures/profiles he gets? [IMG] [IMG]
