Why haven't we left the Big 12 already?

I am 17 years old, so I am one of the few posters on here who isn't old enough to have gotten to see UT compete against all of the *****y nearby football teams in the Texas State Championship Conference, but I sure as hell do not want to bring back the old days. However, I am scared to death that we may just have brought back the old days of the SWC by not leaving the Big 12. Nebraska, Colorado, Missouri, and TAMU were probably our 3rd-6th best historical football teams. And hell- Nebraska's football history probably is every bit as good as our and OU's. Nebraska has the best winning percentage of any football team over the past 50 years, and they have more consecutive sellouts than any other CFB team. TAMU, like Nebraska, consistently sells out a stadium that seats over 80,000. TCU, on the other hand, had a lower average attendance than any other Big 12 team last season, despite the fact that these are the halycon days of TCU football. And some idiots on here actually argue that TCU is an upgrade to the far more storied and popular Nebraska and TAMU programs?
We supposedly have not joined the SEC because of academics, and we have not gone to the PAC in a large part because of travel costs and a desire to remain a regional conference. However, our other addition to the Big 12(WVU) is a historically mediocre program that single handedly kills our arguements about not going to the SEC because of academics and not joining the PAC because of travel costs. Replacing Nebraska, TAMU, Colorado and Missouri is a terrible trade- both in terms of football tradition and fan base size.
I have no idea how much people on here enjoyed the old Southwest Conference and those annual matchups with pathetic football teams with next to no following such as Baylor, TCU, Houston and(drum roll please) SMU and Rice, but welcome, everybody, back to the good old days.(It is beyond needless to say that any conference where Baylor is considered to be the fourth most valuable team will work out terribly, and Rice and SMU probably had less value to the SWC than any other major conference teams had to their leagues.) TCU was one of the four SWC teams that we joined the Big 12 for the very purpose of getting away from, but we have now brought them back into our lives. Our scuedule is the Big 12 is now about 1/2 a step above our scuedule in the SWC, especially since we would have played OU out of conference in the SWC days anyway. And, hell, I guess it might have been nice that you could have driven to every game in the Texas State Championship Conference(even though most SWC opponents were some *****y teams you wouldn't want to watch UT play anyway), but now that we have added WVU and might add Louisville(a team that has an all time record of about .500 despite having played almost its whole fball history in CUSA before joining the Big East in 2005), the Big 12 is not remotely regional. We never would had a snowball's chance in hell of getting into the national title game if we had been playing in the SWC in 2005 and 2009(because our strength of scuedule would have been so horrific), and in much the same way, it will be very hard for UT to ever go to a national title game if we stay in the Big 12. I will never forgive Deloss Dodds for not briging us to the PAC or SEC. And please, nobody mention anything about those false rumors about FSU and Clemson going BIg 12 that were started by a WVU fan calling himslf Honus the Dude Sneed. You know what teams are begging to get into the Big 12? Well, I'm sure that Rice, Houston and SMU are begging to get back into a conference with UT. Of course, we joined the Big 12 for the very purpose of sending TCU, Rice, SMU and Houston to the mid-major conferences, where TCU, Houston, Rice and SMU all rightfully belonged. Well, UT has acted idiotic and let TCU back into its life because for some stupid reason UT hasn't left the Big 12, so why not let Houston, SMU and Rice back into our lives as well?
I want for UT to dump the LHN(which ESPN will dump soon anyway) and go to the PAC or SEC right this second.

The Big 12 is the 2nd best conference behind the SEC. However, an undefeated Big 12 Champion will play for the BCS title. Check the history books. This is a fact.

UT only cares about money... increased travel costs can also be stated as "lower profits."

Mack likes to fool us and pretend victories over Kansas, OSU, Baylor and Iowa State are accomplishments. I'm glad you are not allowing them to dumb you down. If you really are 17 then you have a bright future ahead of you. They wouldn't like you around here because you don't drink the kool-aid.

Please no PAC talk, I live out west and there is no passion for college football, except USC and Oregon. Who wants to play each week in front of half empty stadiums?

Seriously though, the fact that the SEC keeps getting rocked by mediocre coaches (Chizik, Miles, Sumlin) with razzmatazz offenses as soon as they get inserted into the conference makes me think these vaunted defenses just have no challenge. Ol' Miss and Arkie should think about giving the Pirate a call.

    He lost me at:

"...I have no idea how much people on here enjoyed the old Southwest Conference ..."

Obviously not a history student. Or hasnt' watched any TV the past few days on DKR's life.

    Or, as noted, ....troll.

I only agree with your view regarding the LHN.

Hopefully you are in the top 10% of your class so you can enjoy UT as much as I did.

I'm not unbiased due to my location, but B1G would be the best fit geographically and academically for Texas. It is really a choice between the Pac12 and B1G. Apart from Vandy, the SEC schools are weak in the classroom.

The OP is 17 years old, joined Hornfans last Saturday, with 4 posts.

It's likely the text was drafted in MS-Word, then pasted, in which case most of the time the manual carriage returns don't create a line space for paragraphs.

We live in an age where everyone expresses an opinion. For the rest of the community to hear. Imagine if, walking through a Mall or O'Hara Airport, you could suddenly hear everybody's thoughts.

    There you go.

A frightening thought indeed Hu...reference the original thought here...what conference would the OP have us go to?

The PAC? Thanks, but no thanks. I originally thought I'd like to see the Horns in that conference, but then, I got to thinking about all of the late-in-the-evening games, plus the fact we wouldn't be playing the coastal teams like USC, Stanford, UCLA, Oregon, or Cal that much. Besides, football doesn't seem to be much of a priority with the left coasters.

The SEC? Please!!! Why would UT want to get back into a conference with agricultural? It's taken most of a century to shake loose from them...besides, aggy is the one looking for a separate identity. The confederacy is just fine for them, but we'd fit like a square peg in a round hole.

The B1G? A great conference, if you like your nearest rival being over a thousand miles away. Besides, you can't play t-OSU and Michigan every week, and UT would have to start playing whiny Herbie again. That's not even to mention it gets really cold up in B1G country. No thanks.

The ACC? Nope...I'm not that big on hoops.

Bottom line...UT's just fine where it is for the time being. Anybody who doesn't care to watch us play Baylor, Kansas, TCU, WVU and the like can find plenty of other things to do on fall Saturdays.

Welcome to the new poster, but hey...get some perspective on things before putting thoughts out there.
