Sumlin letting Manziel kick an extra point during game today, which he completely shanked. Does nothing more than show the other team up and makes Sumlin look arrogant.
I agree with you, BurntOrange4ever. I didn't listen to the game after 40-0. Did Manziel play the entire game? If so, another dumb/classless move. How many snaps has their backup qb had?
Classless because it serves no purpose other than to tell the world that aggy thinks this kid can do anything. And I seriously doubt that voters will take into account if this kid can make PATs or not when voting for the Heisman.
I'm going to guess it was a way to get him some additional seconds on ESPN for an otherwise meaningless game that nobody was going to watch (seriously? $39.99 for a PPV against SHSU?). Whether he made it or not, it buys those extra 15 seconds to let the talking heads hype him as Johnny Effing Football or Johnny (Heis)Manziel or whatever other name they try to give him this week...
I am not an Aggie hater, but any team who trots out their QB to kick an PAT is without a doubt classless when you are dominating the game. Shows disrespect to a team, especially to a team of the caliber played. Let me guess, Sumlin and the other coaches were laughing and stomping around when he shanked it? To the Aggie poster, please leave the Johnny for Heisnan emotion out of this for a minute... UT' s up by 30 late in the 4th and Mack sends out Colt or Vince Young- are you saying the Aggie nation would not go ballistic? You would and I would be embarrassed as a UT fan.
It was a disrespectful move by Sumlin. Did he really think an extra point was going to sway some Heisman voter out there towards JFF? Regardless of intent, the move went further towards showing up SHSU than anything else. Can you imagine the sh*t-storm if he would have blown out his hammy on that circus act?
IN the 1970's we beat TCU about 81-0 and on the last XP, Billy Sure Schott held and one of our QB's kicked the XP.
Look: After the decision of A&M's athletics leadership to schedule the game and SHSU's to play in it other injustices seen inconsequential. Having Johnny Football kick the PAT is like being the guy who wears unstylish shoes to a lynching.
Playing SHSU was due to having to add two teams at the last minute instead of one. Having Manziel kick was something they've worked on in practice to keep things fun. Take emotions out of it, if it had been anyone else you guys wouldn't have cared.
I agree - it was very cheesy. Aggy and Sumlin do not know how to handle success. Maybe they will be better at this if they continue to win games and get national attention. It looks like Aggy nation is really setting this Manzel kid up for a big fall.
While I can appreciate the statistically great season that Manziel is having, here are some glaring deficiencies: he got shut down past the first quarters against legit defenses in Fla, LSU, and Bama, his defense bailed him out against Bama and Ole Miss. More importantly, where is a heroic 4th quarter drive to win against a legit team? As far as I can see, he appears to be a great first quarter qb in games that really mean something. Just my two cents
He's the best quarterback in the country, IMO, so I believ that he's got fewer "deficiencies" than anybody else. He doesn't have a game where he got shut down by the very worst defense in the entire country, for example. Elite defenses wouldn't be "elite" if they just let guys romp all over them, no matter how good the player is.
crizistre, Did you miss his 4th quarter drive to score against Bama. It wasn't a come from behind but it was the deciding drive. Don't forget his drives to win against Ole Miss.
I don't necessarily think it was classless, but I watched the highlight of his embarrassing attempt. Why the hell was he out there?
I thought it was kindy goofy. Not classless. Nonissue. The Ags here are right - it's about having fun.
