Lots of rumors on OB that he is. Supposedly he didn't "play through the injury" like they wanted him to.

He had zero carries against TCU after getting 10 carries for 31 against ISU.

I don't buy it. That doesn't sound like Mack at all.

He's gone. Our running back situation has been awful. Whaley is a DT. Shead never saw the field. MB has had one really good game and will likely transfer. Apparently Daje is thinking about it. Gray's dad can't be happy right now. Monroe gets zero touches in most games. WTF?

The rumor of Brown's transfer at the season's end has been
out there for some time now. The use of our running backs
has been strange to say the least.

Brown has gone from our best running back to a non factor
after the injury. Coming in against TCU for one play as a decoy on a fake statue of liberty play that was an incomplete
    pass.

DJ Monroe was running as hard as any back earlier this year
such as against OSU. It's senior night and he gets no carries
at all. What makes this even stranger is that Goodwin ran the
jet sweep for almost 20 yards and we never ran it again.
This has been a staple play for Monroe in the past. They said
they wanted to get Hills a touchdown and did. Yet DJ
    doesn't even rate a carry?

Daje Johnson gets maybe two or three carries a game it
seems even though he has had success when he is used.
Also all season they have run screens mostly to Hills and lately
sometimes to Gray. What about a screen to Johnson? That
seems like a no brainer to get him into open space?

I think TCU ran more trick plays than we did Thanksgiving
night. What happened to all our gadget plays? We are
trying to run a power running game with a suspect O line
while we have all these talented spread running backs
that stand on the sideline. I may not be an offensive coordinator, but it seems you should taylor your offense to
the talent you have. It just seems that running power formations with this personnel is like trying to fit a square
    peg into a round hole.

The recruiting will take a nose dive soon if changes aren't made. All that Were Texas nonsense will matter az much as it did from 1985-the nineties

NB, I sometimes wonder if perhaps we have too many offensive playmakers. I know, it sounds crazy. But consider this: There is only one football to be distributed among three very good running backs, and three game breakers (Goodwin, Monroe and Johnson). How in the world can we keep all of these guys involved? Frankly, I don't think that we can.

I don't have the answer but believe that if we don't feature one or two of these guys, none of them will be happy or productive.

    Dead On NBHorn7,

Especially the third paragraph about DJ MONROE

After bragging on him pre-season and giving him multiple videos throughout the season he dissapears except for catching kickoffs in the endzone??? And this is after he ran with reckless abandon, determination and power in the first couple of games.

[IMG] [IMG] WHAT IN THE H.... is going on?

Something is sure screwed up in Denmark, er uh I mean Austin.

Why would Malcolm necessarily be in Mack's doghouse? The best player should be playing. In the coach's opinion, at least right now, it is J. Gray.

Should Malcolm be taking J. Gray's carries or whose, exactly?

It's hilarious to read this thread and see everybody seems to think that somebody different should be carrying the ball more often. Daje isn't getting enough touches. No, DJ isn't. No, Malcolm isn't. Everybody says who should be getting the rock more, but nobody says who should be getting it less.

    J. Gray has looked salty and, as I said, the best player should play. If it isn't M. Brown, it isn't M. Brown ---- and he doesn't have to be in Mack's "doghouse" for that to be the case.

The point is in a game like against TCU when not much of
anything is working you might want to try something different
    to score some points.

It's no different than replacing Ash with McCoy when Ash
isn't getting it done at quarterback.

As I said before we ran one jet sweep all night with Goodwin
and it gained almost 20 yards and never ran it again. This play calls for someone such as a Monroe on senior night.
Earlier this season Monroe was running hard and breaking
tackles and then they quit using him.

It's not necessarily about carries even. What about a screen
to a Johnson? Yes, Gray and Bergeron get the carries
between the tackles for the most part. How do you know
what Brown can do if he never carries the ball?

Yes, Gray and Bergeron got yards early on and then they
were shut down, especially in the second half. When
things aren't working it is time to try something else.

I think on a night when 21 points would have won the game
you try to get the ball to your playmakers in space to make plays. It doesn't matter who it is as long as you do something
that has a chance for helping to put points on the board.

Again I ask where were all the gadget plays we have run
with some success in the past? When your desperate to
score some points to win it's time to open up the large
playbook that Harsin has and use whoever in whatever way
needed. No I don't understand the very vanilla play calls
Thanksgiving night when points were at a premium and the
quarterback position was struggling to say the least.

Let's take a look at those successful rushing stats.
We had 33 attempts for 122 yards and a 2.6 avg a carry.
That is yardages without throwing in the lost yardage of
4 yards by Gray and the 36 yards lost by quarterback sacks.

Leading rusher J. Gray 15 carries for 51 yards minus 4 for 47
    D. Johnson 2 carries for 14 yards.
    J. Bergeron 5 carries for 12 yards.
    J. Hills 1 carry for 8 yards.
    C. McCoy 4 carries for 22 yards minus 19 for 3 yards.
    D. Ash 6 carries for 15 yards minus 13 yards for 2 yards.

That's a net rushing yardage of 86 yards.
Yes, indeed that is quite a power rushing attack. Wouldn't
    want to deviate from that.

We were 21 of 38 passing attempts for for 214 yards.
So 33 rushes and 38 passes in a game we trailed nearly
all night. That doesn't sound really weighted that
much to the passing game does it?

TCU had 48 rushing attempts for for 239 yards and a 4.5
per attempt average. They beat us at our own game.
No, our rushing game was not working. The 20 yards
on the jet sweep was called a pass because it was a flip
    and not a hand off.

This why I posted the things I did. The rushing game as we
used it was shut down for the most part. We simply don't have the O line necessary for that kind of offense against relatively good defenses. You bet it was time to try something different and we didn't and we lost.

as much and often as we run people in and out of the game on a continuous basis, EVERYONE should be getting touches...and since when can we not go to a 2-back or even 3-back look?...it would be wildly unpredictable...are our backs too good to decoy and/or block?...if so, I don't want them - transfer if you aren't willing to do what's best for the team...I also find it hard to believe (with all it takes to recruit players like Brown, Gray, etc.) that we can't find ways to utilize them effectively...it's a nice problem to have...if Harsin/Applewhite are as creative as many give them credit for, then they need to figure it out in the off season

Is there any evidence to back up the idea that Gray's dad must not be happy? I can understand the rest of your thought process, but that seems like it was just thrown in there due to an inability to come up any true negativity for Gray.

It was reported(on pay-sites) prior to the TT that Gray's pop was not happy with how Gray was being used. Have to believe that with increased PT, the old man MAY be happier.
