Well the REAL reason Auburn won a BCS title is back at Auburn. They got their play caller back. Seems liike a no brainer hire to me. LINK
I like it. High risk, high reward. Not the resume of a typical Big 6 SEC coach, but that's because everybody thought (myself included) that HUNH spreads were gimmicky fads until a few years ago. He built the offense, so we'll be scoring points in bunches very quickly. Hope he can get it done on the other side of the ball as well.
what's interesting is that there was a lot of smoke about kirby smart being offered and being very interested in that job. apparently smart wanted full disclosure on what the NCAA probes into auburn and the auburn AD wasnt willing to give him all the information he needed. either way, i think it's a very good hire by them. kiehl frazier has to be thanking his lucky stars that he's going to get malzahn back.
I don't think Smart was offered the job. Bammers will say he was and everybody on the internet believes the crap they spew, but oh well. If he was offered, then we dodged a bullet. He's nowhere close to ready for the job. Apparently, Dye was pushing for him because of the biographical similarities. Dye had cut the umbilical cord before getting the AU job though, knowing he needed to prove himself as an HC and away from the Bear. KS needs to do the same. If KS wanted full disclosure of internal program info BEFORE accepting the job, then that may have been the sole purpose of his interview. Overall, terrible process put in place by a terrible AD/admin, but it yielded a good result.
Gutted the asst coaching staff including trooper Taylor and Curtis luper. Hired Ellis Johnson as DC both very smart moves
The assistants were released from their duties after Chizik was fired. They can reapply under the new staff once both coordinators are in place. I'd expect Taylor to be retained.
Trooper Taylor and another assistant have been relieved of their duties while an investigation for recruiting violations are taking place in regards to Jovon Robinson. If allegations are true why would you risk the program by retaining Taylor and assistants with the NCAA. over the possible recruitment of Reuben Foster?? No recruit is worth the risk to the program. NONE IF the allegations are true....dump the assistants and cut your losses. It's better to be proactive and signal a regime change in the plains.
Arieshorn, Do you think insider trading laws exist to protect the insiders from the superior knowledge of the general public?
Looks like i was wrong. Taylor was not retained, and Foster has decommitted. Ballsy call by Gus. Hope it works out.
