Looks like Jim DeMint is leaving the Senate to run the Heritage Foundation. Interesting.

I don't blame him since the rebuplican party has no spine anymore and the house is eating their own.

it is a great opportunity for him but he was such a solid conservative he will be missed.
Ted Cruz will have to get up to speed pretty quickly.

The tea party allowed their basic message to be hijacked by the dems. Good on the dems for doing it. The tea party also has a few kooks that spoke up too often and the party did not rebuke them.

I dont know if the tea party is good or not but they need new leadership for certain.

I don't think there is anything wrong with being not budging on the issue of spending less than you make. The gvt should work the same way.

If we could get rid off all the religous/abortion/gay wackjobs out of the party we might have a fighting chance of actually winning an election or two.

Sadly I might have to become a third party guy as the repubs are no longer fiscally conservative.

The Tea Party's message has been muddied enough to where I no longer know what they stand for. It obviously started as a movement to hold politicians accountable for government spending that was/is out of control. Is that what it still is? It seems like an organization that is simply trying to push the republican party further to the right. In today's 24 hour cable news world, you have to have a simple message and stay on it. If the Tea Party would focus only on government spending and not allow their message to be distorted from inside or out, they would be better off. I am also not sure if running candidates in elections was a good idea. The candidates then have to focus on more than the single issue that the group wants to focus on, causing the primary message to be muddied.

Remember the Tea Party does not have a national message other than quit spending money we do not have. Locally each and every part of the Tea Party is different. The National Media is the one that keeps conflicting the Tea Party message. If you vote for stupid spending you will not get my support of the group of folks in my tea party area.

We voted against Dr. Burgess in the primary and he ran unopposed in the general. We helped get Ted Cruz elected instead of David Dewhurst as some local Texas examples.

I'd wager that Jim DeMint will be making lots of $$$$ to lead the Heritage foundation.

It's doubtful this move was done in protest but rather to legally fill his bank account.

That's an interesting take. I read this thread because I felt the opposite was true. It seems to me America's current crop of 50 million marxists should fear this move as it shows that as greedy and corrupted with centralized power as Washington is, there is one man who can take it or leave it.

The Tea Party sucks and needs to die. The Republican party needs to accept reality and shift more to the center. Holding the country hostage to further right wing extremist views is not the answer.
