collegesportsblog.dallasnews.com/2012/12/espn-panelist-rob-parker-says-robert-griffin-iii-is-a-cornball-brother-and-that-hes-not-one-of-us.html/ ESPN Analyst says that RGIII is not "down with the cause, he's not one of us"
Some choose to put a higher premium on credibility and respect than other areas of one's life. It's kind of weird to call him out on national television, but I understand from a "community" aspect where the questioning was coming from.
It may not seem worth discussing, but there does exist intra-racial racism. Quite common actually. Within some races you can be discriminated against for not being dark enough, light enough, ethnic enough, etc. You may even be too successful in some cultures, although this might be more crab in the bucket mentality.
Imagine a white commentater saying this about a white athlete: ‘Well, because I want to find out about him,’ Parker said. ‘I don’t know, because I keep hearing these things. We all know he has a black fiancée. There was all this talk about he’s a Democrat, which, there’s no information [about that] at all. I’m just trying to dig deeper as to why he has an issue." Double standard again from a member of the race of people who tend to be more cultually biased, in general, than whites. rgarding RGIII; he's a man. Why does he have to be a "black" man or a "white" man. Why does he have to act "black" to get the approval of the racially infatuated blacks that carry a chip on their shoulders? Yeah, racism is alive and well. A lot of it resides on the black community.
...not down with the cause, has a white fiancee and get this...he might be a Republican!!! We've gone from the racist belief that all blacks look and talk alike, to one that insists thats all blacks think alike. This is progress? It's not just a intra-race issue. I remember a certain black Supreme Court Justice being lectured at his confirmation hearings by lilly-white patrician Senators about what it means to be black in America. His views on the law and the role of government weren't apparently black enough. They were lecturing a black man who grew up in impoverished conditions in the rural south. Absolutely bizarre. Group think/ Identity politics versus individualism. Whatever RGlll's views on political and social issues, I think he'll do fine (with or without football).
Well played sir Once you start getting paid..life says my entire equation breaks down. I'm okay with that No one is cutting me a check just because I'm white anymore than RG3 is getting one because he's black. I do get rightfully paid (and criticized ) at my job because I'm compensated to meet expectations as he is too. That's where it ends. The article's author is a closed minded idiot.
I couldn't have said it better than Cedar Park Fan. It seems as though many blacks want to keep racism alive and well. Everybody else doesn't even see white and black until somebody like Parker brings it up.
Notice how the word equality has disappeared in place of the word "diversity"....a word that is not so hidden code for "quota". I just don't understand why equality or equal opportunity is not good enough for us all.....
I'm not nearly as much of a deep thinker as some of y'all, but it strikes me that, once you strip off our skin, we all look pretty much the same. We all have red blood. There is only one race.
I can see how he hasn't been fired yet. I know that ESPN or any other outfit would drag their feet if a white guy commented on how another white guy had a black faince and speculated on what that could mean and whether or not we should shun him for his individual world view. I'm just joking. A white person would have been fired on the air for that (and rightfully so).
I've heard ESPN has suspended him. The guy's a moron and should be fired. All people should be held to the same standard, period. We have become a nation of excuses.
Im trying to convince myself that he said this to make a name for himself. There is no way that a guy smart enough to land this job is stupud enough to actually believe the things he said. Right? This clown is no better than the black bully in the 'hood that beats up the smart black kids for "acting white".
"You've got to be joking. So it's better for the "community" if he acts like a moron/hoodlum, can't speak, didn't get good grades and isn't a Dem?" Not what I was saying. I said that some people put higher esteem in those who aren't outliers. He doesn't have to be an ignoramus. But he also (according to that line of thought... not necessarily my own btw) shouldn't try to actively distance himself from it. I get where the sentiment is coming from, but Parker showed his frustration in a stupid and outwardly racist way rather than a civilized manner.
