Unless there is a question of health, it's a no-brainer.

Ash has been a bit inconsistent, but we've seen the ceiling with him and it is pretty high.

Thing with Case I just don't get. He can complete 13 passes in a row and in the same game throw 2 pic 6's. How can a guy be smart about his play for that many passes and throw 2 of the worst out routes I have ever seen? Just makes no sense.

It was 17 in a row. That first INT was bad, but I give him credit for bouncing back and playing a really good game afterwards. I can forgive the second INT, because when you're down 35-17 late in the 4th quarter, all you are really doing is taking chances chucking it all over the field hoping for a big play. Even the best QBs wind up with INTs in those situations because you have no choice but to take wild chances at that point.

I don't really think Ash could complete 17 in a row with no defense on the field.

From what I've seen, I think Case is the better QB right now. I find it weird that Case could play a good game against the best defense and the best team we've faced all year, and they still hand it back to Ash who could barely complete a pass in his last game.

What was your opinion on the last pass by Case in the TCU
game with plenty of running room in front of him?

IMHO, Ash can NEVER beat Beavers.

It's amazing to me how such a large portion of our fanbase has become so... scornful about our quarterbacks.

We have a defense that has completely lost the basic fundamental of tackling and people are actually bitching about David Ash and/or Case McCoy.

    Unfreakingbelievable.

That is a false dichotomy. Debating which QB is better (a very natural thing to do in this situation) doesn't mean we suddenly think the defense has no problems.

That's true, but when two QBs are neck and neck and the thread in question is the one that announces which guy was appointed the starter, that's naturally going to be what we focus on - the strengths and weaknesses of those two players.

When the season began we never imagined Ash would end the season ranked 20th in passing efficiency. We just wanted him to manage the game while our unstoppable running backs ran over and around everybody and our inpenetrable defense stymied every opponent's futile attempt to gain a yard.

Our quarterbacks have actually been a bright spot. This isn't 1991 when we had the number 4 defense in the nation and seemed to lose every game 14-10 because of a Peter Gardere pick six.

Having two quarterbacks who are mostly equally capable of moving the offense is a good thing.

I think we've just been spoiled by great quarterbacks and we've forgotten the gutty quarterbacks of the past. We want superlatives. We want the next five star or juco All-American.

I don't. I just want a little more consistency at that position so we can concentrate on the real issues.

Yeah, well... I guess life was simpler before the internet gave us all a forum. Years ago if you ran into some yahoo at a cocktail party or barbeque who liked Shea Morenz better than James Brown or Mike Presley better than Marty Akins, you could just roll your eyes, blow a raspberry and imagine the creep was just some out of step weirdo outlier.

Sure the Applewhite-Simms drama was polarizing but the Mack-era Horns were generally able to plug in one great starter after another until Gilbert was somehow annointed and usurped John Chiles.

Ever since then we've been one angry contentious side choosing mob.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. Some of the comments just seem a tad hyperbolic to me.

Somebody on another post couldn't understand why Johnny F won the Heisman without being on the field for their two biggest plays against ´bama...well what came did we win this year, that we didn't expect to with Ash in? How many games did we win that we thought were lost, until Case came in?

I'm a big Case fan and, though we all knew Mack would pick Ash, I'm still disappointed. I don't believe for a second that Major made the call. If he did, it was so influenced by the theories Mack and the staff have based their thinking on about the quarterbacks the last two years, that it could hardly be considered an independent decision. If the two picks against K State had not occurred, who would they have picked? Probably still Ash. It's a puzzle I will never know. Maybe it's about personalities, or family politics, or strong biases for the bigger player or who knows what? I am sorry that Case didn't give up and leave here sooner, so he could have had a good D-1 career somewhere. Mack, please leave.

Mack should be judged by his own measuring stick. If 17 in a row completions mean nothing, then 1 NC and only 2 CC in 14 years means even less.

Mack does not pick starting QB. How about some beachfront acerage in Arizona. IMO Texas has been shoping for JC QBS for some reason and it might be neither QB is good enough.

Neither Ash nor McCoy is the answer for the Horns.

Ash might be - he has improved a lot.

Colt and Vince both made big improvements from sophomore to junior season. It isn't out of the question that Ash can do the same.
