1. USC Trojans, 2005 (12-1) 2. Texas Longhorns, 2005 (13-0) Do you agree? I think the best offense won that day. Link
So 1995 Nebraska with Tommy Frasier not in the top 10? That's kind of hard to believe. Texas and USC 2005 is pretty much a toss up just like the game was. You could argue either way.
The 2010 pair are underrated, probably because they didn't put up nearly as many points as expected when they played. That Auburn team rushed for over 300 yards in 6 consecutive SEC games. NBHorn, 1995 was before the BCS era.
It just so happens I'm re-watching that classic between Texas and USC this evening. Texas averaged 50.9 points per game during the regular season in 2005, but USC only averaged 50 points that year, so the advantage should belong to Texas by a nose. Besides, all of USC's wins were wiped out for that year (as was Reggie Bush's Heisman Trophy), so that offense technically doesn't exist anymore.
Top two hockey teams in the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics: 1. U.S.S.R. 2. United States of America
Texas averaged 50.9 points despite doing pretty much everything they could to not score for the better part of the second half in most games.
There is an argument for both USC and Texas, what is amazing is that both were in the same year and we got to see both on the field in the same game. Just extraordinary how incredible that 2006 Rose Bowl match up was. i remember reading somewhere that something lime 40 players from that game have played in the NFL. In great college games you get maybe 10 who go on to the pros but in this game every starter almost on both teams went on to the pros and a lot of the backups. It has to rate as greatest game of all time.
I thnk that ranking is defensible. USC and Texas were basically even in ppg, but USC averaged 579 ypg to 512 for Texas. Moreover, USC had a ridiculous 8 guys drafted off that offense that year and 19 off of the 2-deep over the next few years, while we had 3 offensive players drafted that year and 8 over the next few off of tha 2-deep. The difference I that game was we had VY and a Top 10 defense and got the ball last. They did not have a duel threat Qb, had an average defense, and barely failed to convert on 4th and 2. Otherwise that game was a toss up. Their O was as slightly better than ours as our D was better than theirs. You replay that game 10 times and it is probably 5-5. Moreover, both teams were undefeated and sent dozens of guys to the NFL. That may have been the most talent on one field I. The history of college football. Epic game.
in 1980 the two best hockey teams in Lake Placid were the USA and Finland. Soviets got Bronze, thank you very much!
