Democrats liked the Clinton era tax rates so much that they demanded that the Bush tax cuts come with an expiration date. Now they are talking doom and gloom if we go over the fiscal cliff because taxes will.....wait for it....go back to the Clinton era rates. [IMG]

I think it has to do with the relative health of the economy. A robust economy doesn't need stimulation. The current slow-growth economy does. An austeritty budget, which the Fiscal Cliff will achieve, probably means significant negative economic growth.

I think it may be JUST what we need. Unfortunately, our current political system won't allow it. they will come up with some crappy "compromise" to try and save a little face for both sides and then we will carry on for a few more years until we utterly collapse within the next decade.

I seriously wonder if we could drill like crazy and promote fracking to get as much natural gas as possible and to drive the price of oil down. If this is even economically possible, this could alone save us TONS of money. Think of how many things are dependent upon the price of oil:

    1. Many goods and services
    2. airline tickets
    3. driving a car
    4. delivery of groceries etc etc ad infinitum
    5. etc.

think if we suddenly all had more money in our pockets because we weren't spending as much on transportation, groceries, airline tickets, clothes etc.

but i know that just drilling may not affect the price of oil. I still think it would have to effect the price positively at some point and this really could be a huge boon to our economy.

Wind is a complete joke and is eating up ridiculous amounts of subsidies (far far more than oil or coal per unit of energy produced). Solar has great promise but still is far more expensive and Nuclear, while expensive, is far cheaper than wind or solar. Sometimes, it is tempting to believe the conspiracy theory about liberals just wanting to crash our economy in order to bring about their utopian vision of socialism. I suspect for most liberals (99%) this is an utterly absurd theory, but I do wonder about the remaining 1%.

The Hosue should pass spending bills at 75% of prior spending bills to help the looming tax hikes wipe out the deficit. States can pick up the slack as they like.

Then we must add ammendments to the Constitution to enslave the centralized national government and return it to servant status.
