Interesting. I think the continuous pursuit of Juco QB's at this point says less about Ash's hold on the starting QB job than the lack of a reliable backup. That leads me to ask: 1. Will Case McCoy be back in 2013? 2. Are either Brewer or Overstreet progressing at QB to give Major confidence that they can be solid backups?
Ash is the starter unless another QB comes and takes the job from him. This means that we are back to the zone-read. Our QB will run and he will get hit. We need a competent back-up who will see PT in each game. I think Major envisions a high-tempo offense using both Ash and Marshall (assuuming he comes) Case will never play down for Texas again.
This isn't about development. I am sure Overstreet and Brewer are developing. This is about winning and winning big (11+) in 2013.
One thing I wondered about Case doing this was if he planned on being here. Did he possibly feel he was gone, somewhat detached or miffed and therefore did not give a damn? Or did he just have a brain fart? It will all come out in the wash.
Noticed in the article that all quotes were from others. Author didn't interview Marshall. He's being shielded. Texas coaches should be cautious. Austin will present many temptations. Will his ego allow him to be back-up? I'd much rather see Overstreet as back-up.
Would someone expecting to have a shot at quaterback put himself in that position? With half a brain I think not. There have been rumors about Case leaving and I would bet he was already as good as gone.
Hicks isn't a QB, he's a LB and we're talking about QBs here. We don't know what Case's status is or the status of the "situation" being referred to but nothing concrete other than they were sent home and they broke curfew rules that resluted in being sent home. Depending on the outcome of the matter, Case may have pissed in hs own corn flakes, and may not be back, or may not ever see the field again. We'll see....
He was dismissed from UGA for a "theft related incident". Pass on a known thief every time, save yourself the problem later.
Which, in context, may mean that in spite of the Mackster's proclamations, 2013 will likely be much like this year.
To me this means McCoy is gone. Remember this is his second strike as his refusal to reenter the OU game in 2011 did not sit well with the coaching staff. Many thought he was gone after that last season.
