.....with my dear wife and we each enjoyed it.

    The Link

It mostly is set in a lifeboat, but it's not much like Alfred Hitchcock's "Lifeboat," if you were wondering.

    The Link

That classic B&W flick had reality, some wartime intrigue, more conversation, Alfred himself in a newspaper ad about weight loss and a lot less action.

About all the two movies have in common is a lifeboat.

"Life of Pi" was more like Herman Melville and Gregory Peck's "Moby Dick" and a little like Robert Zemeckis and Tom Hanks' "Cast Away."

I even saw some resemblance to "The Curious Life of Benjamin Button," since both those films offered a strange sea saga having a peculiar plot premise.

The Academy nominated this movie for 11 Oscars including Best Movie and Best Director, so it must be pretty good.

At least the Academy's members hink so.

But I'm cogitating that, having no acting nominations, this flick might be more destined to win golden Oscar statuettes for Visual Effects and/or Production Design with possibilities at winning for Cinematography, Music, Original Song, Film Editing or even Adapted Screenplay.

I'm not predicting all those wins, but technical and spiritual cinematic visual excellence is what this film attempts and delivers.

    Small spoilers ahead!!!!

In fact, edit out the part about what I'll call "Meerkat Island," thus trimming about 20 minutes of fat from this fantasy, and we dug all the rest of its 2:07 length pretty much.

In addition, perhaps, give us a better hint in the end as to what Pi's true story really was and I'd have no further suggestions for director Ang Lee because I thought he and his motley crew did a pretty good job:

There was a brokeleg zebra in this movie.

    Certainly more sensibility than sense.

And he didn't hide the tiger this time.

    Or was that the dragon?

    I forget.

I loved it. The visual effects are the most realistic I've ever seen, especially those involving Richard Parker. I saw the 3D version, and it was not as overpowering as Avatar in 3D was.

I thought it was well-done all around.

The "So it is with God" line, which I assume is the climax of the movie, gave me much to think about... as I'm sure the movie's makers intended.

“Uversed” it last night and watched with my 14 yo son. We both enjoyed it quite a bit. It is the most visually appealing movie I have seen in sometime.

    Best Director was well earned.

The twist at the end had us talking for a long time in the car on the way hom from the theatre. The symbolism is amazing. [IMG]
