It's probably not from Big Red Sports though Pretty funny to see Manziel driving away in a Mercedes. Before all the ags tell me, I know his family has money, I've heard all the Tyler stories. [IMG] Eric Dickerson is probably pretty jealous though.. [IMG]

I guess he didn't get thrown in jail or flunk out of a class. As I recall from the NYT article, that was the deal.

Really. Has any prior Heisman recipient gotten the knob-slobbing this guy has gotten?

I can't help but think that aggy is in for a real let-down when it turns out that Manziel has used their euphoria to his own benefit.

Its a different day... Twitter and all the social media crap has changed the game. The Ags might not be as well known as Texas but they have the alumni base and it is State of Texas. People will watch and he did captivate the nation with his skills. I don't have a problem with it.

Didn't say I had a problem with it; I'm just curious. And an over-abundance of social media doesn't explain why the traditional print and electronic media are so into it.

And just think, if he came here hed be a DB and no one would know his name. Amazing. Good for Johnny. Somewhere in an alternate universe the Johnny that went to Texas is kicking himself.

If JM had come to Texas and was allowed to play QB and all this acclaim had come his way, would we be bothered?

Unfortunately because he is allowed to form his own corporation and sell all his ****, he probably bought a Benz with his tee-shirt money.

I don't have a problem with Manziel at all. I think he's a great athlete and is fun to watch. I just thought the fact that he was driving away in a Mercedes was kinda funny.

Funny. We got a network we can't watch, but he got a car he can drive. And because of the network we got that we can't watch, wheels turned and destiny (helped) put him behind that wheel.

    If that makes sense.

A&M is up... but it still a different recognition level. If you go outside of Texas to other states, they aren't as recognizable as Texas. It is what it is.... but they are on the rise and they are getting noticed. A Heisman and ESPN will elevate pretty much any program. The SEC will help their recognition and prestige levels going forward, but the most important thing is winning.

I have no issues with A&M... I have never hated their school or program but I do get some joy over their failures. OU is who gets my blood boiling. The only program I am concerned about is Texas... plain and simple.

The attention placed on Manziel wouldn't be there if it wasn't driving traffic or interest to ESPN. It is a business and when you have the first freshman heisman winner ever... this is a story people will follow. "Can he do it again".... its what ESPN does, or has everyone forgotten how ESPN treated Tebow, USC, and countless others.

He gets the attention for many
    1. He's won the Heisman as a freshman. He's one of the few Heisman players who will be around a while.
    2. Twitter/Facebook age
    3. He's fun to watch
    4. Texas A&M is a new SEC program, and many are watching them for the first time
    5. great nickname

Why all the hate? Ricky Williams drove a G Wagon around campus, it was legal too.

Good for aggie. They're up, they have a Heisman, and the move to the SEC looks like it was a big success for them. I honestly thought it would be a disaster for them and I was wrong. They are jackasses, and that will not change, but they are winning jackasses.

Hopefully on another level, how does his company support a lawsuit for trademark infringement when the trademark has yet to be registered? Seems to me that the use of "Johnny Football" to sell t-shirts and whatever popularizes the term to the point that it becomes a mark capable of registration; but it would not have the value without the pre-registration use.

Just curious. If someone has the answer, I'd be interested to know what it is.

re: cars. Didn't Jerry Gray drive a Beamer in 83? I recall he did. Had no problem with that then, have no problem with aggy heisman either.

funny car story....in 1974/75 Paul Rice (Lewisville) got a new TransAm his Sr year before leaving for USC. Rumors at the HS was aggy gave him the Trans Am (failed bit). Long story short, i was told he never put a drop of oil in the car, the engine was toast by 7k miles.

It doesn't really matter who made it up or who used it first if it refers to him. You can't make up a nickname for somebody and sell shirts or something without compensating them just because you made the name up. That person still has the right to control their own image.

The only way I can think of that something like that would be OK is if it was some kind of fair use and you were selling shirts that were clearly Johnny Football joke or parody Tshirts. In this case we don't have that, we have people trying to sell Johnny Manziel merchandise to fans by slapping Johnny Football, #2's, maroon and white colors on a shirt in order to make money.
