"Gone? Really? I think he should stick around. He hasn't stolen a TV yet. -Cedric Benson" Cedric did not steal a TV. He kicked in a door and took back a TV stolen from him. It was considered breaking and entering, however.

I do understand that the phrase "lack of institutional control" has very specific definitions re: the NCAA and that those definitions would not be met by the recent incidents. That said, if you toss the NCAA definitions out the window, I think it is a phrase that could become more and more apt to describe what is going on in Texas Athletics, and not just with the football team. Baseball, Football, Track, Basketball, all our sports have been taking body shots lately. I miss the old days when Texas wasn't in the news like this all the time. Maybe we're just not as good at covering it up anymore.
I think if he takes responsibility publicly, goes through the legal process, keeps relations with the coaches and stays on top of his studies he will be on the team when summer practice arrives. It is unfortunate that he did not represent the University well or respect his scholarship. But it is naive to expect that from every athlete that shows up on campus.
I am not very happy about the football team's performance over the last few seasons, but I cannot fault Mack Brown for the handling of these situations. It is one of the things he seems to mostly get right, and people should acknowledge the good as well as the bad. If the kid is truly repentant and this isn't a "last straw" event, he will probably get a chance to work his way back onto the team. He will lose a lot of valuable time and his competiton for playing time will be that much tougher. Oh well.
Taps, Yes, "Bellmont", not Belmont. A result of having fat fingers and a small cellphone touchscreen. And as often as this crap has been happening recently, no, I'm not surprised they have a canned response.
Lack of institutional control? Please. No coach is able to tell which kid has the issue this one has. He could be a normal guy when it comes to all other things...some stalkers are. But when it involves his ex, different story. He will break your jaw with a cheap shot if you talk to the girl he used to date that no longer chooses to date him. lol That's a serious character issue that can be VERY well hidden. There's no way for a coach to know that this one subject turns him into a raging violent nutjob. He may have never been in legal trouble for anything else...it happens with some guys like this. Women can make the wrong type of men lose their mind, even if unprovoked. How is Mack supposed to know that? Come on. Just get rid of the soon-to-be stalker and call it a day.
From the fine dining etiquette class:"Miss Mary Ellen taught us certain skills, so if you're at a formal event, you know how to conduct yourself or what to order. For example, if a lady is present, stand up if she's excusing herself from the table," said Jones. "Certain skills that we learned tonight we'll use for the rest of our lives in business meetings and at formal events." Miss Mary Ellen forgot to add the part about not beating the **** out of people. "That's a serious character issue that can be VERY well hidden." Well, I agree to a point. I'm just a dude who doesn't do paid background checks on everyone, but even I hear things through the grapevine about so-and-so. Dudes like Casey Hampton and Shea Morenz wouldn't have been allowed to step foot on campus ever again considering their offenses. But they did. Jones, like Dan Buckner, had some serious girlfriend issues that people other than himself and his girlfriend knew about. It's one thing to say "no one would ever see this coming," but I'm sure at least one coach had talked to him about his "issues" before this all went down.
This guy has had an "entitlement" mentality for a very long time. His daddy is one of those 'helicopter' parents who has been telling the coaches (since he got here) that he should be playing and bugging people who would not listen. It is little wonder that the kid thinks he can do whatever he feels like. Now daddy gets to fork over big bucks to an attorney who will try to keep him out of jail. Perhaps this is a lesson to both of them.
we have players that will sucker punch tennis players, but will curl up like schoolgirls when they hit the floor of the cotton bowl vs 0u. ....awesome....
Stoops would have congratulated him on the effectiveness of the punch and promoted him to first team.
"we have players that will sucker punch tennis players, but will curl up like schoolgirls when they hit the floor of the cotton bowl vs 0u. ....awesome.... " THIS!
